Year of birth

[edit]

I suspect 1921 is wrong and it should be 1920. I can't find any references giving 1921 except the one given in the article. Gallicrow (talk) 13:51, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Anybody know the copyright status of "The Ballad of Christy Ring"? I've removed it until it's determined? rroddy

Any chance that somebody could add a photo of Ring to the Infobox?

DOB? 12 October or 12 December?

[edit]

Article currently says 12 October, but other sources suggest 12 December. Definitive source? Guliolopez (talk) 00:40, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Eye Witness

[edit]

As a small boy, less than ten years old, I was brought with my father to the playing-field in Blackrock, near Tivoli, Cork City to witness The Railway Cup final. Munster were away behind. Christy was well guarded. He shouted that if he had not the ball he could do nothing! Presently the ball came straight at him at head-hight, plus words that cannot be repeated! Christy, bent this way and that way, swong his very shalacked hurley, and after that no one there saw the ball travel, just the tinkling at the back of the net! Silence! The ref. came up and asked Christy if he hit the ball that went to the back of the net? Christy lost hit his temper! The Goal was allowed. Munster went on to win by at least 2 Goals. Any one remember this better? This was one of the last matches Christy played!

I think a priest discovered him? Asking the boys playing hurley to attempt to put the ball through the window of the Church, and promised a reward. The priest was of the opinion that if the window was broken anyway there was no harm! Christy won every time! MacOfJesus (talk) 11:57, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

One of the things that Christy said when the ref. asked him the question was: "There it is now; but if you cannot see it....". It would appear from that, Christy was looking for the perfect fast goal. No one there saw the ball travel, so I guess it must have travelled faster than 200MPH.
