Institutes of Science and Technology

[edit]

I'm not sure what is the relevance of the last paragraph on Institutes of Science and Technology as it doesn't really describe how it connects to the Polytechnics. I suggest either explaining the connection or, if there is none, dropping the whole paragraph. Also, Imperial College which was then (i.e., for all or most of the time when Polytechnics existed) a part of the University of London was also an Institute of Science and Technology (it's now a separate degree-awarding body with "medicine" included in the name). —Preceding unsigned comment added by EdDavies (talkcontribs) 10:11, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would second that, there is nothing in that paragraph that provides any information about Polytechnics. Plus, no need to move it to another article as there is little in common among the institutions covered except a coincidence of name.Sussexonian (talk) 00:24, 5 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think I was the main author of most of that when it was part of a different article. I agree that it seems out of place and I'll remove it myself unless anyone objects. Some of that content belongs in the Institute of Technology article and I'll place it there. Zagubov (talk) 21:01, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lists

[edit]

Is there a list of UK polytechnics anywhere?

(And came across reference to a 'monotechnic' once - ie concerned with a single field). Jackiespeel (talk) 23:48, 7 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

For context, Binary Divide belongs in Polytechnic (United Kingdom) Whizz40 (talk) 19:54, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • I agree it should be merged here. Lightbluerain (Talk | contribs) 09:19, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I also agree, except that technically it is that Binary Divide should become a redirect to this Polytechnic article. There is nothing significant in the Binary Divide article, just one questionable opinion ("it was an experiment") and the rest already contained here.
I also think this Polytechnic article is not very comprehensive, for example it omits the important fact that most of the polys were created and managed by the Local Education Authorities, until their FE/HE responsibility was removed at some stage (earlier than 1992). I will try to make some improvements. Sussexonian (talk) 11:21, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Weird Text Formating?

[edit]

Is it just me or is there a weird underlining and greying out of half the text on this page? AnneofKeys (talk) 15:52, 8 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
