Yellowstone County Detention Facility

UPDATE 6/24/24: Myron Scott Goesahead, 20, and Ashtin Zant Glen, 19, were both charged with attempted deliberate homicide and possession of a deadly weapon Monday.  Both of their arraignments are set for Tuesday morning.

BILLINGS, Mont. - Inmates at Yellowstone County Detention Facility (YCDF) attacked two detention officers using shanks made from toothbrushes on Saturday.

Sheriff Deputies and an ambulance were called to YCDF for the assault at around 8:15 PM on Saturday, June 22, 2024, according to the release from Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office.

Two detention officers were on the clock at the facility, working, when the inmates attacked the officers unprovoked, as shown in security camera footage, according to court documents.

The inmates attacked the officers with weapons they had made prior to the attack and their fists.

The attack was stopped, and suspects were secured, by other officers at the facility before the Deputies arrived.

When Sheriff Deputies arrived on scene, they saw a large amount of blood hemorrhaging from the back of an attacked detention officer's head. Deputies learned that the officer had been stabbed repeatedly in the back of the head.

He was brought to a local hospital with injuries to both his head and his neck, treated there and discharged later Saturday night. The other officer was evaluated at the facility and was not moved to the hospital.

Sergeant Hostetter showed Sheriff Deputy Galles two weapons recovered from the attack, two knives made out of sharpened toothbrushes with cloth handles.

Sergeant Hostetter advised Deputy Galles that one of the inmates had admitted to stabbing someone before Deputy Galles arrives, court documents allege.

Sergeant Hostetter also shared two pieces of paper found from one of the suspects, Myron Scott Goesahead, a note with a map of the class housing unit with a red circle where the attack occurred and a note written to an attorney in the community. The map indicates this this attack was planned out ahead of time.

The two suspects will appear in court for their charges on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.
