Marquise Meda

Meteorologist

Marquise joined the WESH-2 Weather Team in the summer of 2023. But similarly, to so many meteorologists his love of science and meteorology started at an early age. For Marquise, his passion for atmospheric science was sparked in the summer of 2005, during middle school. At the time, there was no Atlantic Hurricane Season more powerful or destructive. Headlined by Hurricane Katrina, that Atlantic Hurricane Season went on to displace millions from their homes, ultimately causing 170 billion dollars’ worth of damage. Seeing how a series of catastrophic events can shape the lives of billions across the globe, Marquise instantly knew what career path he wanted to align himself with.

He went on to follow that interest in college at the University of Massachusetts, where he received his master’s degree in Atmospheric Science and a Minor in Mathematics. Eventually that same love and curiosity for meteorology followed him into the military, where he served as a Combat Weather Forecaster in the United States Air Force. His call to service gave him the opportunity to immerse himself in different cultures around the world. Marquise viewed every tour or deployment as a lesson worth learning. Lessons which included Broadening horizons in Romania, predicting dust storms in the Middle East, and creating Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts (TAFs) for the president on Air Force One.

It’s that same confidence built in those lessons that Marquise displays on air as a broadcast meteorologist. Marquise’s career in-front of the camera has brought him quite a few places as well. He started as an intern for CBS-2/WNLY TV in the #1 News Market throughout the country, Manhattan New York. From there he worked full time as a meteorologist and reporter for 9 On Your Side WNCT in Greenville North Carolina covering Hurricanes Florence, Dorian, and Humberto. It was during this time that Marquise got to see how the scope of his work as a broadcast meteorologist gave him the opportunity to keep people in his local community safe during times of disaster.

Prior to moving to Orlando, Marquise’s career in meteorology brought him to Atlanta, Georgia, joining Weather Channel and Local Now. Here he was given the opportunity to forecast weather at a national level, covering top weather headlines and viral videos throughout the year. Marquise says he loved his time in Atlanta, but all the while something was missing. And that was the opportunity to be immersed in the community. Marquise states to have a great passion for providing a service to the neighborhood he lives in. He hopes not only to give detailed forecasts to the Greater Orlando community and its surrounding regions, but also reach out and get to know the people of Orlando, whether that be at school visits, fundraisers, or covering breaking news.

When not in front of the camera, you can find Marquise on the basketball court, underneath a barbell, or soaking up the sun at the beach.
