That’s a wrap – Seagrass & Al Hilal 🌳👏🌍 The Seagrass team and our partners at Al Hilal Official have wrapped-up an inaugural Carbon Markets Workshop, helping to develop understanding, decision-making and innovative solution design to support climate mitigation. Alongside Al Hilal's Sustainability team, we were thrilled to host representatives across the organisation from various departments including Treasury, IT, Marketing, Compliance, Risk Management, Products, Operations, HR and more. UK Decarbonisation & Policy 🇬🇧: The course is set, just a matter of how fast, trust in tools and global integration. These were sentiments shared at our Seagrass and E.ON dinner during London Climate Week, in partnership with Goals House. Joined by policy makers, industry, academia and investors, we discussed ways the UK can deliver capital to crucial technologies ⚡️ domestically and compete on a global stage 🌍 when it comes to carbon finance. A big thank you to our special guests The Rt. Hon Alok Sharma, Ian Corfield and The Rt. Hon Chris Skidmore for your perspectives, alongside our hosts Thomas Birr and Ely Sandler. Key takeaways below ⬇️ ✅ We need to leverage existing policy frameworks, that are already legislated and trusted by the market, in order to achieve new policy goals eg renewable energy generation frameworks can be tweaked for batteries and long-term storage. ✅ Batteries are crucial for their system-wide impact, including ancillary services and grid balancing – these reduce emissions, so we shouldn’t just focus on utility-scale, but flexibility.   ✅ The priority is finalising Article 6 to provide clarity to the market and making incremental gains on operationalisation. There is a clear space for the UK to play a role in unlocking finance to the Commonwealth and quickly to support NDCs.   ✅ London needs to innovate across the derisking tool suite, eg insurance, to help build confidence and support private capital.   ✅ The UK’s international policy for carbon markets needs to fit in with broader spectrum of international themes and players e.g. MDB reform.    You can read our latest thoughts in our UK Climate Finance Policy paper here: https://lnkd.in/dvG5gJVc #UKDecarbonisation #ClimateFinance #CarbonMarkets

Our London Climate Action Week activity kicked off yesterday, bringing together over 45 women to discuss buyer and investor perspectives in the carbon markets. A big thanks to our partners Women In Carbon and Goals House for co-hosting with us. And, to our panel speakers: Jacqueline Isabelle Hadasch at E.ON, Meghan Edge at Ripple and Hayleigh Ford at Seagrass, for their candidness and authenticity. Key takeaways below ⬇   1: Corporates need clear language and concise guidance from SBTI as to Scope 3 and what integrity looks like, building on the work from ICVCM & VCMI. This is an important inflection point to really scale capital into supply chains, circularity and abatement tech, if delivered simply. 2: Companies see the EU Directive, disclosure requirements and derisking buyer offtake as both challenges/ opportunities for next year. These are heightened by unknown political outcomes in key markets. 3. Squiggly careers are good, it’s getting comfortable in change and stepping into newly established industry roles with conviction. Our speakers included a former jazz singer and journalists, who found their way into sustainability & carbon based on commerciality, timing, love of insight and a passion for social & environmental justice. 4. Pathways need to be built out with CFO, IR, Legal and Procurement teams as this becomes a wider C-suite priority across intersections of climate stewardship, taxation and reputation. 5. We need collective action on the realism and financial mechanism that the carbon markets offers to deliver the transition, moving the narrative on from one that doesn’t just hinge on obligation, but also opportunity.   #WomenInCarbon #ClimateFinance #LCAW
