MDAG kids and docs May 15; Progress winners

Eight new Polish projects aimed at kids will be presented May 15 as part of the Forum of Documentary Film for Young Audiences, at the 20th Audiences Millennium Docs Against Gravity (Poland). The projects have been developed over the past year within the LET’S DOC. DOCUMENTARY IDEAS LAB organized by Andrzej Wajda Centre For Film Culture. MDAG Industry also announced winners of its first Progress Pitching session.

A few days after the Russian invasion last year, Polish filmmaker Maciek Hamela began driving into Ukraine to pick up civilians and bring them to the Polish border. The footage he shot of his many journeys is brought together in his new documentary, selected for Cannes ACID and Millennium Docs Against Gravity (Poland). “We were trying to concentrate on the human stories and not to be splashing the screen with fear and war,” the director tells BDE. “This is not a typical film shot in the trenches…”

Doc Alliance Award nominations announced May 23 at Cannes Docs

Sixteen 16 documentaries (8 features, 8 shorts) are submitted as nominees for the 16th Doc Alliance Awards which will be presented at this year’s guest festival DokuFest in Prizren (4 – 12 August). The Doc Alliance Awards are valued at with €5,000 (Best Feature) and €3,000 (Best Short) for the filmmakers to spend on their next projects.
