The Pahari school of art developed between the 17th and 19th century, predominantly present in the hilly regions of Northern India. The Barahmasa theme is often seen in the Nurpur, Kangra, Mandi, Guler, Garhwal, and Chamba (all places in Himachal Pradesh) schools of Pahari art. Barahmasa paintings in Kangra is inspired by Jayadeva's Gita-Govinda; its popular for its depictions of Radha - Krishna.
