Scheduled to end: 18:32, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

Hello all, I am Sergio (SUL account Blackcat) and I wish to offer my contribution to Commons as sysop.

I have been active on Commons since 2006 and on it.wiki since 2004; have been active - mainly on it.wiki - in tasks such copyviol and vandalism report.

My interests are mainly rugby union (I have uploaded several photos related to this topic plus got seven quality articles on it.wiki) and improving the quality and accuracy of media on Commons, if necessary by taking personally photos and uploading them here. I believe into freedom of knowledge and am glad if someone is able to "know more" about something by reading or watching something I published - either here or in any other chapter.

I am a native Italian speaker and can also speak English and French; my wish as admin is to be useful to any editor, especially to those who speak my same language and may want to seek for a referring point who speaks a familiar language (though I'm aware that editors are equal no matter their language or country).

Critics and questions are welcome -- Blackcat (talk) 18:32, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Oppose Sorry, but perhaps Blackcat should have seriously considered the discussion of Grand-Duc's RfA before submitting this. While I could be on the fence there, this one is easier for me to assess. For the record, Blackcat has 2,900 edits on Commons, but only 36 in the Commons: namespace. I don't see any reason why he should not be an Admin, but I suggest he withdraw this now and spend a while making intelligent, constructive, and civil comments on DRs -- if he does that I'm sure one of us will enthusiastically nominate him. Also, we require Admins to have e-mail enabled, but that is an easy change.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 12:34, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I thought it was enabled Jim, sorry. Now it is. -- Blackcat (talk) 14:52, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Oppose Concerns with limited experience in the commons namespace. -FASTILY (TALK) 20:43, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you both for your frank opinion. Yet, I am still confused. I read that as general rule the number of edits is relatively counting; now I read that there are concerns about my supposed inexperience in the NS due to a lack of activity there. But there's a reason why it appeared I didn't participate much: in many occasions I see no use in adding my opinion to - i.e. - a deletion request which consensus is clear, if I agree with the result. I'm usually giving my opinion if the consensus is not clear or if I have to express something that may change the existing consensus. -- Blackcat (talk) 12:48, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Comments

  • You ask reasonable questions. Here are a few comments:
    • Perhaps you did not do your homework as well as you might have -- seeing that Grand-Duc is probably not going to pass this time, with the same reason and five times as many Commons: edits, you might have decided to wait a little with your request.
    • A look through the failed RfAs in the archive would have shown the same thing.
    • With only 36 edits in the Commons: namespace, you haven't expressed many opinions. Only a handful have been in the past year.
    • On a typical day, the DR log for seven days earlier will have a hundred entries, more or less. Of them, a few will be very controversial, and maybe twenty or thirty will attract several comments. The balance, maybe 40-50% will have no comments except the nomination. It is always helpful to the closing Admin if there is more than just the nomination, particularly if the nominator is an IP user, or someone who rarely starts a DR.
    • This need not take a long time. If you withdrew now, spent a couple of months, active on DRs, with constructive, civil, and mostly correct comments, and brought this RfA back again, you would probably succeed. At that point, one of us might even volunteer to nominate you.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 14:34, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thank you for your advice. How to withdraw this request? -- Blackcat (talk) 15:24, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Withdraw

[edit]

By Jim's advice, I decided to withdraw this request. Thanks to all for your opinions. -- Blackcat (talk) 10:52, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
