The logo has complex graphical background. Not simple as claimed. George Ho (talk) 04:59, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

 Keep: disagree. Just a simple color gradient. TOO is rather low in USA. --P 1 9 9   13:36, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How is this color gradient too "simple" for copyright? (Never heard of "color gradient", honestly. Just what I perceived it to be: shades, contrast and brightness of one color in one area.) Furthermore, I see squares all over the font. Can't tell whether it was graphical disintegration or part of intended graphics. George Ho (talk) 18:15, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

URAA restored copyright. Memorial in Raseborg, Finland, by Finnish sculptor Felix Nylund (Wikidata:Q3742071), died in 1940, memorial unveiled in 1938. Has been PD in Finland since 2011. URAA date of restoration in Finland: January 1, 1996. Will be PD in US in 2034. No FoP in Finland for sculptures. Htm (talk) 08:40, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The logo does not consist of simple geometrical figures. Complex logos can be in Commons only with VRT-permission. Taivo (talk) 09:04, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Keep. Plain text and a simple arc with a small "wing". If this is not a simple geometrical figure, what is? --P 1 9 9   13:43, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Simple geometrical figures are, for example, rings, ovals, ellipses, rectangles, parabolas, hyperbolas and even some spirals. I cannot name figures on the logo, they are not simple. And this is not simple arc. Simple arc has constant curvature, in the logo curvature changes, its thickness changes as well. Taivo (talk) 16:11, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

what is this supposed to show? it only shows a few blobs so it seems like the wrong file was selected or there was an error Prototyperspective (talk) 13:41, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the file is broken – I reported this at wearebeautiful/wearebeautiful-models#1 a while ago, but a fixed version unfortunately never materialized, and given the project’s termination in the meantime (it’s now “frozen”), it seems uncertain if it ever will. (If I understand correctly, the solid should be generated from the corresponding surface, which is intact; but even if we can figure out how to do the conversion, I’m not sure if it would be right from us to deviate from the upstream source that way, to be honest.)
I’d rather not delete the file, as we otherwise have all the We Are Beautiful (now known as Hidden Beauty) files on Commons (AFAIK), and I think it’s valuable to have the whole set mirrored; but we could certainly update the description and categorization, if you think that makes sense. Although NBC Sports Boston marks its videos as CC-BY, it uses 3rd party images, and those should be considered copyrighted. See COM:DW.

Adeletron 3030 (talk) 14:16, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I assumed they were since they were owned by NBC Sports since the same exact images were re-used in other NBC Sports Boston videos. Are you 100% certain they are third-party? Dissident93 (talk) 21:34, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Dissident93 The Caleb Williams photo is from USA Today Sports Images. Same for the Drake Maye photo.
If an outlet is using still photos as part of a video, you can generally assume that it's because they don't have their suitable footage of their own and are paying Getty or USA Today to license the photos instead. Adeletron 3030 (talk) 13:22, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the links. They should all be deleted in that case, including File:Jayden Daniels 2023 SEC Football Kickoff Media Days (cropped).png and File:Jayden Daniels 2023 SEC Football Kickoff Media Days.png which were also taken from the same video. Self-drawn flag with false description. w:Kievan Rus didnt have flag, see w:Talk:Kievan Rus' for discussion about this attrempt Altenmann (talk) 17:58, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I made a mistake. It is not a flag, but rather a banner. Though, as a banner, it was real and used by Kievan Rus, as per real chronicles. I can list my sources if you so desire. Vbokivs (talk) 06:09, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You cannot list sources, because you have none, as we may see from w:Talk:Kievan Rus'. It is your interpretation of chronicles that it was a flag or banner of Kievan Rus. You need scholarly sources that say so. Altenmann (talk) 23:00, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Jerry Newton died in 2016. See w:en:Jerry Newton. The EXIF data states that this was generated 13 May 2024, which suggests that this is a photograph of a copyright photograph by an unknown photographer. COM:PCP applies. Permissions and actual source need to be lodged with COM:VRT for this to remain here. 🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦 22:24, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I just had the original 35mm slides {Jerry Newton's home pool party} all of which are dated June 1984 just transferred at 5-24. OK what is needed for me to do? Take a picture of the 35mm slide on top of lit white light?
Thanks for any suggestions!
Tenneventdave Tenneventdave (talk) 23:45, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can try sending that into VRT as linked above. Robertsky (talk) 03:17, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Tenneventdate, are you saying that you took the picture, and therefore probably own the copyright? If so, then you have the power to license it in the way that Commons requires.
If you did not, you almost certainly do not own that copyright, and cannot do so. If you can track down the photographer, they may be able to do so; but otherwise the picture cannot be hosted at Commons. It is possible that you could upload it at Wikipedia (not at Commons) as non-free content, but you would have to justify that its use met all the criteria in the W:WP:non-free content criteria. ColinFine (talk) 11:34, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Tenneventdave Put simply, please at least start a conversation with VRT, telling them with precision all that you know of the history of the slide. It is worth doing this even if you are the photographer because that will settle this for all time. Do not do this by little incremental pieces of information, do it once and well. Explain to VRT how you turned that slide into an upload able image as a part of what you say.
Even if this has been deleted in the intervening period VRT will organise reinstatement if your history (etc) pass our rules. 🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦 12:23, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There is no commercial Freedom of Panorama in Rwanda. Honoring a recent Rwandan event (the genocide of the 90s). A commercial Creative Commons licensing permission from the sculptor or his heirs is required. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 23:50, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello I have shot this photo with full permission. Annick green (talk) 00:48, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Annick green commercial licensing permission must come from the sculptor or their heirs, not the owner. We are talking about the copyright, not the physical ownership. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 01:12, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
