This gallery page Eurymedon Bridge (Aspendos) is good for nothing and it is confusing to have 7 of the 13 pictures of the Category:Eurymedon Bridge (Aspendos) assembled on an extra gallery page with the same name. The gallery was created on 25 April 2009, before the Category with the same name was created on 11 December 2009 whereby the gallery became redundant. For the same reason the page Heinrich Christian Schumacher - on my nomination - has been deleted on 24 Otober 2012 be User:INeverCry. --Vsop.de (talk) 18:31, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I entirely disagree, I cannot find anything in this gallery which is against the guideline. This gallery is useful for two reasons:

1. It presents a selection of the best pictures of the category, showing the bridge from different angles. By contrast, you cannot sort or select images in a category.
2. Unlike a category, a gallery allows the use of (multi-language) captions which provide a brief, valuable description of the picture to the viewer.

These advantages apply generally to galleries and therefore it is no surprise that literally tens of thousand such galleries in Commons exist unchallenged. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 01:29, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
