Hello, Cyan22!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Structure of Masonic appendant bodies in England and Wales

[edit]

Greetings Cyan22, and happy Christmas! :-) I ran into an article called Masonic bodies, and when I made some further Google searches about the organization chart of York rite Masonry, I noticed there is a tiny little conflict there with your self-made graph. See, in these two pictures, "Order of Knights Templar" OKT) is actually above "Order of Knights of Malta (OKM): [1][2].

First, I wanna say that I know a very little about Masonry, but those two pictures would suggest that the order of "OKT" and "OKM" should be vice versa. There is a huge chance though, that my knowledge on the subject is way too insufficient - or that the two images that I provided above would not be that reliable per se - but do you mind taking a look? =P Cheers and Merry Christmas! :-) Jayaguru-Shishya (talk) 16:55, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

#4/11

[edit]

Hi Cyan22, please see COM:File renaming for reason #4 and footnote: Just because images share a category does not mean that they are part of a set. There are two scenarios that this criterion is designed for. First, certain complex templates (such as those that use BSicons or that display football kits) assume that the images used in them will follow a specific naming convention. Wikisource also uses a specific naming convention for the source files they transcribe. Second, files that form parts of a whole (such as scans from the same book or large images that are divided into smaller portions due to Commons’ upload size restriction) should follow the same naming convention so that they appear together, in order, in categories and lists. In my opinion your requests on Steyr Tabor files are not covered by that policy.

Thanks for your images on Steyr Tabor topic, I marked two of the gravestones with Category:Austrian Civil War (as they obviously were killed in the course of the February 1934 Fights and aftermaths). regards --Herzi Pinki (talk) 23:43, 9 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Änderung der Kategorie

[edit]

Und was bedeutet "Eding"?

Viele Grüße!--Geyersberg (talk) 20:47, 30 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Setting up a category redirect

[edit]

Have a look what I did at Category:Ordre du Mérite agricole. This is the right way to do a category redirect. - Jmabel ! talk 06:23, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

November 2023

[edit]

Hello why did you create this category with a name for that king which is unknown in English? He is only known as Charles VIII or Carl VIII or Charles II or Carl II on English, never King Karl Knutsson. If you wish to note a Swedish name, that should have been done in the category explanation, not in the category name, and a title in English should never be combined with a name in any other language. Please never do anything like that again!--SergeWoodzing (talk) 23:59, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Here, also, you did disruptive editing. Her name was not Désirée Clary when she died, Nobody by that name was buried there, For Heaven's sake, it even says DESIDERIA on the sarcophagus! --SergeWoodzing (talk) 00:03, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I went by Swedish names first, and in the case of Désirée Clary, there already was a category of that name (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:D%C3%A9sir%C3%A9e_Clary). I chiefly meant to organise the imagery from Riddarholmskyrkan. Most of Wikimedia Commons is English-speaking, yes, but in some cases, translations from the local language to English don't quite do the original justice (see e.g. the category "Side chapels of Riddarholmskyrkan"). Sorry if this upsets anyone. Cyan22 (talk) 00:11, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
"King Karl Knutsson" (English title + Swedish name basically unknown in English) was an inappropriate choice and not acceptable.
Using any other name re: a tomb than that on the sarcophagus is along the same inappropriate line of choice.
Please be more careful! --SergeWoodzing (talk) 00:17, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

And this should be a redirect, not a "See ..." --SergeWoodzing (talk) 00:13, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Same here! People looking for that obvious family grave need to be able to find it through what once was a perfectly correct category. That family grave consists of that king & all his descendants & spouses above on the floor and below in the crypt. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 00:24, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

December 2023

[edit]

Problems:

  1. There is no such name as Eleononora (see the talk page there).
  2. There has never been anyone called Carl XI Gustav.

Please correct these errors! SergeWoodzing (talk) 07:12, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
