Regarding your post on Wikibooks:Reading room/Technical Assistance, I'd recommend reading Using Wikibooks/Wiki-Markup. In addition selecting Browse or Random book on the menu on the left of the screen and just investigating other books will help.--ЗAНИA  talk 00:06, 11 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Also Help:Contents has a more detailed look at everything.--ЗAНИA  talk 00:10, 11 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Importer Flag

edit

I'm attempting to get rights to import content from English Wikipedia. If I should get the flag I would like some guidance on how to, because I'm unsure based on the page wikibooks:importers

You'll see that I have changed it so that you now have importer rights. Special:Import is the page to go to. Make sure you select the correct project (w for Wikipedia). Then enter the correct title of the Wikipedia page. Ensure the first check box is checked. To transfer to a new page in your book choose (Main) from the drop-down box. Enter your reasons for the import in the Comments field. Finally enter Topology in the Destination root page field. This will import the page from Wikipedia (let's call it Blob) to Topology/Blob. Sometimes there can be problems especially if it's a big page or a page with hundreds of revisions - in that case leave a message in the Wikibooks:Reading_room and someone will try to help. Hope this all makes sense.--ЗAНИA  talk 00:36, 22 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! I'll try it out tonight. Knittedbees (discusscontribs) 00:42, 22 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

I just noticed your first attempt. It is possible to import directly to your book if you select Main from the drop-down box instead of Transwiki. I think the import didn't work because the actual page on Wikipedia is Eilenberg–Steenrod axioms with the long hyphen. --ЗAНИA  talk 01:04, 22 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
I have succeeded in importing that page now - Topology/Eilenberg–Steenrod axioms. I'll delete the other attempts. I don't even have the long hyphen (–) on my keyboard (only the short (-) so I had to copy and paste from Wikipedia. I should also add that imported pages will often be full of red links which you'll have to remove or change the links within the book.--ЗAНИA  talk 01:10, 22 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
I see you managed this time. I had just imported it also so it looks strange when you click on History as there are now 3 different entries for each past edit because it has been imported 3 times - I don't think it matters. I'll leave you to it and if you have any further problems hopefully someone will be around to help out - I'm off to bed.--ЗAНИA  talk 01:16, 22 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Great, thanks for setting me up, I'll just have to watch my punctuation. I can tell this will take some effort to get into wikibook style but still a lot easier than working from scratch. Knittedbees (discusscontribs) 01:14, 22 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
