Florida

edit

So did Florida have an election in 1960 or not?

VP Nomination

edit

Acc. to White (Making of the President 1960), no vote was taken for VP. The reason was that you had a bunch of delegates from the Upper Midwest screaming about his nomination, and Sam Rayburn (the convention chair) didn't want a divided vote. Thus he passed the nomination by UC (in spite of shouts of "no" from several parts of the hall). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.239.170.241 (talk) 04:49, 21 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

White says (p. 212) that Kennedy announced Johnson as his choice at 4.30 pm. on July 14. He says nothing about delegates from the Upper Midwest, UC, Sam Rayburn or shouts of "no". Scolaire (talk) 11:39, 11 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Article

@-A-M-B-1996- Articles on primaries, as consensus has been, are limited to public contests. Most states pre-1972 did not hold such contests. Consensus has long been to outline public primaries in primary election articles.

Please avoid a triple revert and discuss before restoring. There is not consensus established to retain your edits merging the subject of primaries and conventions. The consensus at Wikipedia has been to have separate articles for primaries and conventions. SecretName101 (talk) 23:53, 20 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

This is not correct; please avoid strewing your discussion across several talk pages and relocate it to an appropriate venue. I am sure the 2020 or 2024 articles would be a good place for you to argue, in effect, that the Iowa caucuses should be removed from the infoboxes. -A-M-B-1996- (talk) 23:55, 20 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Gelid Lagopus: Lyndon Johnson did not compete in the primaries. He famously waited until the Convention, after the primaries had concluded, to declare interest in the nomination. Your recent edit re-adding him actually misrepresents information and excludes the accurate context that he was not a candidate in the primary. I'd urge you to revert it and discuss. He also appeared on ballots in absolutely zero states. SecretName101 (talk) 18:24, 21 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Gelid Lagopus are you not willing to discuss these points? SecretName101 (talk) 18:27, 22 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
If these points are not willing to be discussed, then the edit should be reverted. SecretName101 (talk) 02:41, 8 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
