Merger proposal

edit

Formal request has been received to merge: Rapid KL, Public transport in the Klang Valley, Transport in Kuala Lumpur, Buses in Klang Valley into Klang Valley Integrated Transit System; dated: June 2020. Proposer's Rationale: All of the above mentioned articles are either duplicates of each other or describe specific components of the Integrated Transit System, and merging all these articles with information already present in the Destination Page, and creating new sections for information not currently present in the Destination Page would centralise all the information about Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley Area's public transit system as a whole, and remove any confusion for readers. ~Thanks! Transport in Kuala Lumpur does not fit into this proposed merger at all, it's a large overarching article. Public transport in the Klang Valley is similarly broader in scope. Buses in Klang Valley includes operators outside of the integrated system, and if it was to merge into anything it would be Public transport in the Klang Valley. A concern with integrating Rapid KL into Klang Valley Integrated Transit System is that Rapid KL is far older than the integrated system, as the integrated system cobbled together existing transport options rather than creating new transport. Compare for example the Transport for London system, where individual lines all have their own articles and even Oyster card is separate. My suggestion for centralising information would be to expand Klang Valley Integrated Transit System with better summaries for all its component parts. CMD (talk) 09:53, 23 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
I agree with User:Chipmunkdavis. The Rapid KL article is about the Rapid KL brand of services that belongs to Prasarana Malaysia, much like how KTM Komuter is a part of Keretapi Tanah Melayu, and has a distinct purpose from the other articles mentioned. The public transport system in Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley is not only made up of Rapid KL, the article serves more of explaining about the brand of Prasarana Malaysia. I do agree however that Public transport in the Klang Valley and Transport in Kuala Lumpur can be merged because they are very identical. Kuala Lumpur is wholly part of the Klang Valley, so whatever public transport that serves the Klang Valley serves and overlaps with Kuala Lumpur as well. As for Buses in Klang Valley and Klang Valley Integrated Transit System, they both talk about two different aspects of the public transport infrastructure of the Klang Valley, i.e. bus and rail. The integrated transit article itself is very lengthy and should not be combined with the others. However, the bus article can be merged with the public transport article, most of the information there can be summarised. But the rail transit article should remain separate as it has its own importance. Draco97 (talk) 13:59, 29 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
