Your contributed article, Crimes de la Commune

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Crimes de la Commune. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Crimes de la commune. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Crimes de la commune. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. ForsythiaJo (talk) 17:02, 15 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Required translation attribution missing

edit

I noticed that you added translation attribution to Draft talk:Port of Boulogne-sur-Mer in this edit, but that Talk page is not a translation, and does not require attribution. On the other hand, the draft page, Draft:Port of Boulogne-sur-Mer, is a translation from the French Wikipedia article, and does require attribution, but there is no such attribution in the page history. Same thing at Draft:Magny shaft, Draft:Ronchamp colliery shafts, Draft:Henri IV's white plume, and, I'm guessing, all of your translations. These four, and all articles you have translated previously require translation attribution in the Draft page history (or article history, if already moved to main space), and it must be added retroactively if you forgot to add it at the time, per Wikipedia's licensing requirements. Please see WP:RIA for how to proceed now. And thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia! Mathglot (talk) 08:33, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

False friends, and machine translation

edit

Beatrizsborges, thanks for your creation of Draft:French Freemasonry under the Second Republic. I left you some comments in the Draft about over-reliance on machine translation, which produces such gems as:

The Supreme Council of France, the country's second-largest obedience and occasional rival of the main obedience, remained on the sidelines.

There's obviously a false friends or jargon problem here, and the solution isn't difficult to find. A bit of research on the French side, and then glancing at the English article on Freemasonry, and it soon becomes clear they are talking about a Grand Lodge (sometimes, just lodge). Please read over your translations, and don't just paste unedited machine translation into an article. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 10:16, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for this message this really helps me to improve my work! I edited the article and I saw the problem! I hope this time the article is more clear. Please let me know if something is missing or if there is something that I didn't notice. Thank you again and keep up with the good work.

When translation attribution is not needed

edit

  Courtesy link: Special:Diff/1233391024

Beatrizsborges, thanks for your continuing use of translation attribution for your edits involving translation of copyrighted content from other Wikipedias. Just a note about overuse: the attribution statement only needs to be added to the edit summary when there is actual, "creative content" involved, i.e., something that is copyrightable. Not all content is copyrightable, even if it's long; for example, the list of the first million prime numbers or of all the streets in Paris has no creative content, and so is not copyrightable. What is and isn't "creative content" can get into tricky details of U.S. copyright law, and nobody expects a Wikipedia editor to know about that, so if you are not sure, adding a translation attribution statement to the edit summary never hurts. However, obvious things like fixing typos, wording adjustments, grammar fixes, copying citations over, or adding brackets to make something into a wikilink as you did in this edit, definitely are not "creative content", so you don't need to bother with it in the edit summary. If you have the slightest doubt about whether it is or isn't needed, just go ahead and add it. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 21:12, 8 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hey, thanks for explaining to me! I added twice because I tought its was necessary since you left a message about the other articles. Thanks for clearing that. Beatrizsborges (talk) 21:21, 8 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
