Goodbye, Wikipedia. The corruption of Arbcom, as amply set out in the recent e-mail exchange I had with them, where promises were made, broken, and they literally used me being upset at their actions as an excuse to refuse to actually review those actions. Further, gross favouritism - consider cases like GianoII, who knows one of the Arbcom, and so was protected for years, versus me making a statement that requires some straining to see as a violation in the first place, and getting a block of the full length and a nasty message. Evidently, if you do what they explicitly permit you to do in their decision, then politely comment when someone tries to use your work in a gambit, that's blockable.

I had been gone for five months. I had only returned for a week. Arbcom has been corrupt at the least since the Matthew Hoffman case - the one so egregious they were forced, eventually, to make a public statement admitting wrongdoing. They have clearly learned nothing.

Wikipedia is not worth my or your time. Shoemaker's Holiday talk 14:19, 4 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

But Arbcom is not Wikipedia! Although I can really empathize if people at the top are really not ideal. One may feel unfairly targeted, unsafe, unmotivated. Not saying that's necessarily the case with today's Arbcom, 13 years after your comment though. I hope you come back one day. Regards, Thinker78 (talk) 04:46, 21 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

You are now a Reviewer

edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 21:15, 15 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, just standing in for seresin, doing the Signpost Features and admins page this week. I can't see how to search for the end of last month's archives. I presume there have been no promotions or demotions over the past week. Thx. Tony (talk) 13:42, 4 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

competition

edit

Hi there. Im looking to have a writing competition held in September and I am looking for a couple people to help me with their thoughts and ideas. I have had some input on the competition and have had several chats with people outside the wikipedia talk pages and I have decided to keep the competition limited to the following restraints:

1. Judges and competitors are separate and there has to be a finite list of them.

2. The competition should range from a few days to no more than 2 weeks, depending on the theme. Not a year long competition and not multiple stages.

3. The theme will be either creating ONE new article, expanding a stub, illustrating a large article with no pictures, editing an article in crisis or something similar to these ideas. If its successful we can have more competitions with other themes.

4. My general idea (but this needs serious development) is to have each article judged two or three times. The top ten are then announced as finalists and every judge then reviews those articles and the top three are announced.

4. Simple is good. Decide theme, decide rules, find people, define judges, define scoring criteria, assign topic or stub or whatever, come up with a way to discourage other users from working on the page (by far most difficult part requiring a lot of ingenuity and good ideas). Judge. Sounds simpler than it really is doesn´t it?

5. Keep it informal, simple and fun.

6. Find a name for it.

Wanna help me with this? I´ll set up a new page and hope to build a team of three people to make this happen.

A long time ago you were part of the discussion on the WP:BELIEFS proposal. I went away for a while and I am trying to come back slowly, so I thought I would start with updating that page and reactivating the conversation. Please join in if you still would like to be part of that discussion. Low Sea (talk) 20:19, 12 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Main page appearance

edit

Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of the file File:Vivaldi - Four Seasons 1 Spring mvt 1 Allegro - John Harrison violin.oga know that it will be appearing as the main page featured article on January 15, 2011 due to a special occasion, the tenth anniversary of Wikipedia. It will be featured as part of the today's featured sounds, with the article The Four Seasons (Vivaldi).

You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/January 15, 2011. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, it can be requested with the featured article director, Raul654 (talk · contribs). If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If the article or file need any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. Thanks TbhotchTalk and C. 02:13, 14 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
