A garnish is a small, usually raw, addition to a cooked meal, intended to give visual appeal and perhaps a contrast in flavour and texture. The classic, indeed hackneyed, garnish is a sprig of parsley on top of just about anything, but garnishes can include croƻtons in soup, or a slice of lemon on fish.
