  • Comment: This is good to go but I can't because there many uncited content, including the participants, award prizes, etc. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 23:59, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
  • Comment: The first two sources are close primary ones, and the other two aren't quite enough to satisfy WP:GNG. That said, given that this is a reboot, you might be able to find more sources from the earlier production run, to get this across the line; otherwise may need to wait until the new season airs and receives publicity. Suuri seikkailu (finnish for 'Great Adventure') is a Finnish adventure reality television program, where a group of Finnish contestants adventure and compete in various challenges in the Finnish wilderness for a money prize. Based on completely Finnish format, the show was originally hosted by Taru Valkeapää [fi] from 2001 to 2002. The show originally aired on MTV3 network from 2001 to 2005.[1]

In 2023, TV channel Nelonen announced, that they will rewamp the series in spring season 2024.[2] The revival is set to be hosted by Jaana Pelkonen, and it will feature 16 celebrity contestants playing for the grand prize of 20,000.[3][4]

Format

[edit]

The format of the program is somewhat similar compared to some international formats like Survivor. In the original series, a group of ordinary or celebrity contestants arrive to the Finnish wilderness, such as Lapland.

For the duration of several weeks, they must compete in two teams in a series of physically and mentally tough challenges, while negotiating in the wilderness. They will have to hike, cykle, row and live in the wild. During the span of the adventure, contestants will be gradually eliminated, until the most successful team will advance to the last stages. Onwards this point, the team game will no longer play, but it turns into the battle of the individuals. The last contestant standing wins the grand prize.[5]

Each episode of the revamped version consists of a team challenge. The winning team gets the reward of sleeping in a warm, finnish themed cottage with the possibility to use a Sauna. The losing tribe will accommodate in a series of tents set up on the forest. Also, the team captains will decide, who from their teams will go to the battle arena, and face one of the other team's member. The loser of that duel will be eliminated, and the person in question has the power of nominating the next team captain of their tribe.

History

[edit]

2000's era

[edit]

Upon premiering in 2001, the show become popular all around Finland, with the first season averaging on about 600,000 viewers. Also what made the program so long-lasting, was that it never actually lost notable amount of viewers during it's lifespan. The season that remained the last of it's original era scored also a respectful number of viewers, around 600,000 as well. Those numbers were back then high, as there was no free video-on-demand services, and to see the program, people had to watch it live on television.[6]

Although the series' popularity grew every year, channel MTV3 decided to shelve the series after 2005's season. Reasons for that being that the series was quite expensive to produce, and the channel thought, that it would be better to move on, as the audience's interest towards the series would eventually start to slow down.[6]

2024 revival

[edit]

In autumn 2023, Finnish TV channel Nelonen announced in its upcoming spring's programme's press, that the iconic series would make its comeback after 19 years of hiatus, in 2024. The revamped series sees a group of celebrities adventuring in the wilderness, with Jaana Pelkonen serving as the host.[2]
