Jacob John Greaves (born 12 September 2000) is an English professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Premier League club Ipswich Town.[3] He is the son of former Hull City and York City defender Mark Greaves.[4]

Career[edit]

Cheltenham Town[edit]

On 8 August 2019, Greaves signed a three-year contract extension at Hull and joined Cheltenham Town on loan until January 2020.[5] He made his league debut in a 0–0 draw against Morecambe playing the full 90 minutes.[6]

Greaves' loan at Cheltenham was extended until the end of the season on 8 January 2020.[7]

Hull City[edit]

Greaves made his first senior team appearance for Hull City in the EFL Trophy match on 8 September 2020 against Leicester City U21.[8] On 17 October 2020, Greaves made his league debut in a 3–0 win away to Rochdale.[9]

On 12 November 2020, Greaves signed a new three-year contract with the club.[10]

On 20 February 2021, Greaves thought he had scored his first goal for Hull City in a 3–3 away draw against Doncaster Rovers only for the Dubious Goals Committee to award the final touch to Josh Magennis.[11][12]

Greaves scored his first career goal on 22 October 2022 on his 101st league appearance for Hull putting his side 1–0 up away at Rotherham United.[13] At the end of the same season, on 2 May 2023, Greaves achieved an impressive feat by winning his third consecutive Young Player of the Year award with Hull.[14][15][16]

Greaves captained Hull City and bagged his first brace in his 200th career appearance on 17 February 2024, scoring a 94th minute winner in an away match against Huddersfield Town in a 2–1 victory.[17] In March 2024, Greaves was named Hull City's Player of the Month for February.[18]

On 14 April 2024, Greaves was named in the EFL Championship Team of the Season for the 2023–24 campaign.[19] A few weeks later, on 30 April 2024, he was also named Hull City's Player of the Year.[20]

Ipswich Town[edit]

Greaves signed for Premier League side Ipswich Town on 12 July 2024.[21]
