Polaris (Korean(주)일광폴라리스; Polaris Entertainment), previously known as Ilgwang Polaris, was a South Korean record label founded in 2006.[1] It was formerly a subsidiary of Ilgwang Group, a large South Korean conglomerate whose main business is arms trade,[2][5][6] and then later a subsidiary of Levite United,[3] founded by CEO and Ilgwang Group founder Lee Kyu-tae's son Lee Jong-myung.

History[edit]

In late 2018, it was confirmed that the company had signed former Wonder Girls member, Sunye following her 5 year hiatus.[7]

In 2019, the company revealed plans to debut a new six member boy group known as Tripleme, revealing each member officially as well as promoting the group on their YouTube channel.[8] However, the group ceased activity after November 2020, without officially debuting.

In spring of 2022, Polaris's website officially shut down, following the departure of all musical artists within the company.[9][10] It is currently unknown if the company is still active. As of 2024, the website has had all branding stripped and has no information about the company. It has been updated with posts about SEO tips for YouTube.

The subsidiary BlockBerry Creative, most known as the girl group LOONA’s former label has also become inactive. The label stopped paying for itswebsite and stopped posting on social media. The label has no active artists like their parent company.

The remaining subsidiary NEWTYPE Entertainment has been active since 2014[11] and is currently the only business of Levite United that is active. The company is a music label and publishing company. NEWTYPE works with big companies in the industry such as SM Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, and Starship Entertainment among others.
