3+2+2+1+1=10?

[edit]

In the lead, it says 10 climbers were killed, including 3 Ukranians, 2 Chinese (including one Chinese-American), 2 Slovaks, 1 Lithuanian, and 1 Nepalese. But that only adds up to 9, so someone is missing. What's the correct tally? —BarrelProof (talk) 09:01, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently the problem was with the counting of the Chinese. The lead said "two were from China including one Chinese-American". But if the number is supposed to include the Chinese-American, it should be three, not two (Yang Chunfeng, Rao Jianfeng, and Chen Honglu). —BarrelProof (talk) 14:09, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Tourists?

[edit]

To me, the name of this article seems odd, because I don't think of serious mountain climbers as "tourists". But I don't know what alternative name to propose. Can someone suggest one? (Please also see this similar comment at WP:WikiProject Climbing.) —BarrelProof (talk) 10:11, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I made a similar point when this event was being discussed at WP:ITN; basically the source of the issue is the fact that the article was named before the identity of the victims became clear -- the first newspaper stories referred to the victims as tourists. How about 2013 Nanga Parbat shootings? Looie496 (talk) 12:42, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
To me, "shootings" sounds like multiple events. This happened all at once. How about 2013 Nanga Parbat expedition massacre? —BarrelProof (talk) 12:54, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Or 2013 Nanga Parbat mountaineering party massacre or 2013 Nanga Parbat mountaineering expedition massacre? —BarrelProof (talk) 05:47, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2013 Nanga Parbat tourist shooting2013 Nanga Parbat expedition massacre – This was a mass killing of a group of world-class mountain climbers at a base camp who were setting out to climb the ninth-highest mountain in the world. These people were not "tourists" who were there to take snapshots, wander through museums, and hang out around the pool at their hotel. Most of them were people who had already climbed other 8,000-meter peaks – at least one of them had done that solo, and three of them had done it 6 times or more. Note that 11 of the cited sources use "massacre" in their titles. --Relisted. Natg 19 (talk) 03:25, 11 July 2015 (UTC)BarrelProof (talk) 14:27, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
