Error: ordering of the nations is wrong

[edit]

I must say that the ordering of the nations is not following the alphabetical order of Brazilian Portuguese. I wanna edit it but don't know how to do it. Can someone help me?

It is following the correct order, except that certain words like Republic of.... (or the Brazilian Portugese equivalent) are dropped in accordance with past Olympic practice, so for instance República Centro-Africana (Central African Republic) is alphabetized under Centro, not Republica. The IOC is weird however, and does not do that with all nations. So keep that in mind too. With that in mind, is there anything else that is incorrect? Nations being alphabetized under a word other than the first are par for the course, but if anything else is wrong, let us know and someone more experienced with tables can fix it. teams, not countries or nations...

[edit]

better to call them parading teams...not all the teams represent countries...just a cursory look finds Guam, American Samoa, and Puerto Rico, which are all parts of the United States...then there are the Independent Athletes and Refugees...no countries there either...so where's the Massachusetts and Antarctica teams??...2601:18E:C501:5FE2:7ACA:39FF:FEB2:EFCB (talk) 21:00, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

They represent National Olympic Committees, with the exception of IOA and ROA which are explained in the main article. Massachussetts does not have its own National Olympic Committee, so it can't compete. Guam, American Samoa, and Puerto Rico do. Smartyllama (talk) 21:01, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Flag bearer for Afghanistan

[edit]

Can anyone tell me who the flag bearer for Afghanistan was? I'm finding conflicting reports on and off the wiki. I keep seeing either Kamia Yousufi or Mohammad Tawfiq Bakhshi and I'm not sure which one is right. Gamermadness (talk) 14:45, 6 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Brazilian Portuguese" is a set of dialects, but not a language

[edit]

Hello

I don't think it's correct to say: Other countries entered in an alphabetical order in the language of the host country (Brazilian Portuguese), beacuse Brazilian Portuguese is not a language on itself. According to the article Brazilian Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese is a set of dialects of the Portuguese language used mostly in Brazil. And according to the article Brazil, the official language is just Portuguese.

Therefore, I'm going to delete the adjective Brazilian in the text, as well as in the table.
