Merging Agri decumates with Agri Decumates

[edit]

Two pages of the same topic; the only difference is the spelling. Use of capital letters seems to be more in line with references in English texts. Ekki01 19:34, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

explanation of reverts

[edit]

I removed the chunk of Latin from Tacitus. Since so few people can understand it today (especially those under 60, since it's instruction largely lapsed in the 1960s), placing it in a wikipedia article, in my opinion, is, at best, overkill, at worst, pedantry. Also, the English translation is also unnecessary. Anyone interested, can certainly read the book the Germania in translation. (There are many to choose from.)

'Also, I removed all but one of the German works referenced in the "Literature" section (which I renamed to the arguably more accurate "Further Reading").

Since this is the American version of wikipedia and so few Americans speak even read German, coupled with the great difficult an American (or even a British, let alone and Aussie or Kiwi!) would have in even finding the books even if he or she could read German, I've removed all of them except the one work which is quoted in the article text.

German sources removed:

  • Bingemer, Heinrich, Das nördliche Dekumatenland vor, während und nach der Römerherrschaft, dissertation, Frankfurt, 1924
  • Lexikon des Mittelalters, München, 1980ff., ISBN 3-423-59057-2
  • Much, Rudolf, Die Germania des Tacitus, 3rd ed., Heidelberg, 1967
  • Konrat Ziegler, Walther Sontheimer, August Pauly (eds.), Der kleine Pauly, München, 1979, ISBN 3-423-05963-X

A province

[edit]

Was it ever a province or rather a region of the provinces of Raetia and Germania Superior? 41.241.116.252 (talk) 18:22, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
