COI

[edit]

An independent editor put COI tags on this as all the content was added by an SPA IP, it was typically cranked straight out of the PR machine. They were removed on the sly by another SPA. Reinstated - should be discussed by independent editors on talk page before removal. Rayman60 (talk) 22:52, 13 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have reinstated the tag. It's up to you how far you want to go with the content clean-up. User:Llemiles seems to be using the page to spark rumours of a 2020 IPO. so that's worrying...GDX420 (talk) 13:56, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi User:GDX420 - I had read through the whole article and made quite a few edits to try and give a WP:NPOV. I was definitely not editing to try and promote the subject or her business in any way. If you feel some of my additions are insufficiently neutral or are not appropriate then please do make any amendments to it. I removed the tag after reaching a point where I felt there was sufficient reference to media sources and a neutral tone but if users disagree with that then I'd appreciate any edits you can make to further improve the article. Diolch. Llemiles (talk) 17:30, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Come off it mate, they are paying you. Do I really need to post the off-wiki evidence?GDX420 (talk) 17:32, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ooh, please do. I'd be highly amused to see what crackpot theory you have about me. I have no connection to Boden. What I do have is an extended confirmed user account, with 2,190 edits, 45 files, 207 pages created, and two years of edit history. Why would I want to go around shilling for a company - when I'm clearly exclusively invested in the independence and neutrality of Wikipedia. You have clearly not heard of WP:AGF if you are here making such lurid and crude accusations at random. Llemiles (talk) 17:42, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
So I suppose it's just a coincidence that the PR manager of Starling Bank was looking for a professional Wikipedia editor, then a week later you make promotional edits to the page? Don't lie. How much are they paying you?GDX420 (talk) 17:50, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
GDX420, seriously? If you're looking for a Single Purpose Account, look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/HenryThomasJenkins. Folks that have edited Anne Boden more than once:

I'm pretty sure I know who the SPAs are. Vexations (talk) 17:54, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have off-wiki evidence that this page was out to tender.GDX420 (talk) 18:02, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
GDX420, I think I need to caution against making direct accusations. It's better to ask people to disclose a conflict of interest first, because not everybody got the memo on the WMF's terms of use that prohibit undisclosed paid editing. Sometimes people are confused about what constitutes a Conflict of Interest. And even then, take care not to out people. It's frowned upon, to say the least. Vexations (talk) 18:08, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you User:Vexations. As your post shows, I've never even edited Starling Bank as far as I know, so I am highly confused by User:GDX420. As he has a history of targeting good faith editors and making these accusations, I have had to raise the issue at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#User:GDX420. Unfortunately he has taken to targeting articles I have created on a range of subjects without following usual procedure on AfD nor editing generally. GDX, please desist. Llemiles (talk) 18:11, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Llemiles, I was hoping it wouldn't come to that. AN/I never seems to end well. I think we can all agree that Starling Bank has been edited for pay, even though only one editor admitted to that, and that same editor also edited Anne Boden. Much of that CoI editing has happened in 2017, so it doesn't make sense to dredge that up again, but some of it still seems to be ongoing. Vexations (talk) 20:02, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Vexations, thanks, definitely agree it is at high risk of CoI edits. And I agree with your removal of the listing claim on second thought. I hadn't considered that the article was only citing the bank itself when making that assertion, and such a claim isn't really useful for the article. Thanks.
