Some review excerpts

[edit]

I think the review I added is not found without a paywall, so I will just put some excerpts here:

Yuppie Archie falls apart like a soggy comic book NewspaperMay 4, 1990 | Toronto Star, The (Ontario, Canada) Author: Michael Hill Special to The Star | Page: D18 | Section: ENTERTAINMENT 773 Words

...

Archie and crew might have retained some of their silly innocent appeal had they remained in perpetual high school, but coming back to Riverdale for their 15th high school reunion with divorces and kids and fiances and boyfriends in tow, yet still trying to act like the Archies of old - the band even takes the stage at one point - they just come off as stupid.

...

Actually, there is some real cleverness in much of the writing. Tom Patchett of ALF and Ken Kaufmann of Kentucky Fried Movie are behind this Archie, and it shows.

In addition, the acting is decent with Christopher Rich, who played another comic-book role in The Charmings, appropriately naive as Archie. Sam Whipple is a real comic find as Jughead while Karen Kopins as Veronica and Lauren Holley as Betty each hit the one note they are given with appropriate aplomb. Saturday Night Live veteran Gary Kroeger is Reggie.

As a result, it just sort of falls apart like a comic book left out in the rain.
