Phil Bridger I will take it to AFD if you insist, but I have an extensive library on Anglo-Saxon history and I am certain that there was no such battle. It would have taken place in the territory of Æthelflæd, Lady of the Mercians but it is not mentioned in her biography or in histories of Mercia, or in biographies of Edward the Elder, or histories of the Vikings, or the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. Are you sure that your source is not referring to the 1469 battle? Dudley Miles (talk) 17:35, 10 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The source refers to both battles. It says that there was a battle in 1469 on the same site as an earlier battle in 914, and that that earlier battle is known by this title. It doesn't give a reference to any primary or previous secondary source for that, but it was published in 1998 so at least doesn't get its information from Wikipedia. The battle is not mentioned in histories of the period, it is not found on a search of Google Scholar and a Google search finds no reliable sources. Do you think the mention you have found is sufficient evidence to keep the article? Dudley Miles (talk) 18:48, 10 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No, I don't, but I think it is enough to mean that this article should be discussed at WP:AFD rather than summarily deleted via WP:PROD with the rationale that you provided. If you make these points in a deletion discussion rather than here, and if nobody comes up with any more good sources, then this will probably be deleted.
