Casualties

[edit]

I don't have the book references in the current lists, but in some online checks, examining monument markers, and reading first person letters from the Kansas Territorial website it appears that 5 Kansas were killed, at least one of them murdered as a prisoner ("Dutch Charley", presumably Charley Keiser listed on the monument.) Some others were wounded, and a dozen or more were prisoners. On the Missouri side at least 5 pro-slavery men were wounded, but nothing like the casualty estimate that John Brown made. I would like to see a compilation from a later historian to confirm numbers. It looks like we can do a lot better than "unknown", at least listing admitted casualties by both sides.
