Suomen Luonnonsuojeluliitto ylläpitää ja valvoo Energian ympäristömerkkiä. "The Finnish Association for Nature Conservation maintains and monitors the ecolabel for energy." http://www.kuluttajavirasto.fi/fi-FI/eko-ostaja/ymparistomerkit/ekoenergiaa-merkki/

"Since 2003 the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation and the Finnish Association for Nature conservation have had an agreement concerning Bra Miljöval and Norppa-labeled electricity. This means that Norppa-labeled electricity can enter in Bra Miljöval." http://www2.snf.se/bmv/elleveranser-norrpa-finland.cfm

Ympäristöystävällistä norppamerkittyä sähköä myytiin Suomessa vuonna 2008 yhteensä 3 260 GWh. Myynti kasvoi edellisvuodesta 23 prosenttia. Yhä useampi asiakas valitseekin sähkönsä sen alkuperän perusteella. Viime vuonna norppamerkittyä sähköä käytti jo noin 386 000 kotitaloutta ja 25 000 yritystä. Kotitalouksien määrä vastaa noin 15 prosenttia Suomen kotitalouksista. "3260 GWh environmental friendly Norppa-labeled electricity was sold in Finland during the yar 2008. Sales increased 23% compared to the previous year. So the number of customers buying their electricity according to its origin grows all the time. Last year already 386.00 households and 25.000 companies bought Norppa-labeled electricity. This means that 15% of the Finnish households buy Norppaenergy." Norppaenergia-merkki on Suomen luonnonsuojeluliiton energian ympäristömerkki. Se on ainoa riippumaton energian ympäristömerkintä Suomessa. Merkki myönnetään uusiutuvalle energialle tiukoin ympäristökriteerein. "Norppaenergia-label is an ecolabel managed by the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation. It is the only impartial ecolabel for energy in Finland. Label is granted to renewable energy under tight environmental criteria." http://www.energia.fi/fi/ajankohtaista/energiauutisia/ymp%C3%A4rist%C3%B6merkityn%20s%C3%A4hk%C3%B6n%20myynti%20kasvoi%20l%C3%A4hes%20nelj%C3%A4nneksen.html

Ekoenergia-merkki voidaan myöntää Suomessa, Ruotsissa, Tanskassa tai Norjassa tuotetulle sähkölle. Ruotsalaisen, tanskalaisen tai norjalaisen voimalaitoksen tulee olla Ruotsin luonnonsuojeluyhdistyksen (Svenska Naturskyddsföreningen, SNF) Bra Miljöval -lisensoima. Luvanhaltijan on toimitettava ulkomaisesta hankinnasta selvitys tilintarkastuksen yhteydessä. "The EKOenergy label can be granted to electricity generated in Denmark, Finland, Norway or Sweden. Power generation facilities located in Denmark, Norway or Sweden must be licensees of the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (Svenska Naturskyddsföreningen, SNF) Bra Miljöval scheme. Applications to FANC must be accompanied by an explanation of foreign procurement arrangements together with the company’s audited annual energy accounts." http://www.ekoenergia.fi/merkin-kayttajille/kriteerit/sahkontuotantomaa-1

Luonnosuojeluliiton Ekoenergia-merkki kansainvälisille markkinoille Suomen luonnonsuojeluliitto havittelee Ekoenergia-merkilleen Euroopan laajuisia markkinoita. "EKOenergy label owned by the Association for Nature Conservation goes to international markets Finnish Association for Nature Conservation aims at the European wide markets with its EKOenergy label." http://www.energia.fi/fi/ajankohtaista/energiauutisia/luonnosuojeluliiton%20ekoenergia-merkki%20kansainv%C3%A4lisille%20markkinoille.html

Vesivoimalaitoksen tulee olla valmistunut ennen vuotta 1996. "The hydropower facility must have been constructed before 1996. " 1.1.2009 Ekoenergia-merkin piirissä olevien vesivoimalaitosten osalta selvitetään kalatien rakentamisen tarpeellisuus yhteistyössä energiayhtiöiden ja asiantuntijatahojen kanssa kunkin vesivoimalaitoksen osalta erikseen. "The necessity of having a fish run at each hydropower facility included in the Norppa label scheme on 1.1.2009 will be individually and separately assessed jointly by FANC, the energy company involved and qualified experts." http://www.ekoenergia.fi/merkin-kayttajille/kriteerit/vesivoima

Ekoenergia-merkki myönnetään tuulivoimalle sillä ehdolla, että voimala ei sijoitu:

   * Luonnonsuojelualueille (1)
   * Valtakunnallisesti ja maakunnallisesti arvokkaille maisema-alueille (2) ja kulttuuriperintöalueille (3)
   * Kansainvälisesti ja valtakunnallisesti tärkeille lintualueille (FINIBA)

"The Norppa label can be granted to electricity generated by windpower facilities provided that they are not located:

   * In nature reserves1
   * In landscapes that have national and/or provincial value2, or which form part of Finland’s cultural heritage 3
   * In important international and national sites used by birds (FINIBA)4

Notability

[edit]

This ecolabel is similar to:

There are number of this kind of articles existing in Wikipedia. Label is also impartial, a non-profit label and very widely recognised in Finland. It might also later become an international or at least European wide ecolabel for energy. This article should not be deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Reskelinen (talkcontribs) 13:49, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia also says about spamming and advertising: "Articles considered advertisements include those that are solicitations for a business, product or service, or are public relations pieces designed to promote a company or individual. Wikispam articles are usually noted for sales-oriented language and external links to a commercial website. However, a differentiation should be made between spam articles and legitimate articles about commercial entities."

This article does not promote any commercial good or service. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Reskelinen (talkcontribs) 14:01, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's as may be, but the article fails to cite any reliable source to show how the company is actually notable, according to our polcies. It's true that this probably doesn't meet the Advertising criteria (though I leave that for another admin), but it may still warrant deletion if the subject cannot be shown to be Notable. Are there news articles about the company? Google News comes up with nothing. UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 14:54, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
EKOenergy is not a company, but an ecolabel run by the biggest environmental NGO in Finland. Selling electricity under an ecolabel and also buying electricity based on its origin are new phenomenoms, which are strong especially in Finland and Sweden. As the electricity markets were opened in those countries long before other countries, these countries are now used as examples all around the world.

There is also interesting discussion going on here, how the high demand of "green electricity" and "ecolabeled electricity" will change the production in future.

So far the authorities like Finnish Consumer Agency or Motiva recognise its importance. There is also all the time ongoing research done about its influence by Vaasa EMG, a research laboratory in the University of Vaasa.

Google gives 24.000 hits in Finnish for Ekoenergia, 15.500 hits for Norppaenergia (old name for the label), 6.500 hits for Norppasähkö (name used for the old label in spoken language) and 600 for Norppamerkki (abbreviation for the old name).

I agree that the article should be improved heavily, it does not refer to reliable sources at the moment and there is not a lot of information about this. I can try to do this and for sure Finnish Wikipedia heavyusers can help.

Instead of deleting this, I propose that we create similar pages also for Bra Miljöval (Swedish sister ecolabel for Ekoenergia) and for Green-e, which is a smaller ecolabel for energy in the USA. I am not sure if the Green-e is considered as impartial and non-commercial in the US, but I think there are a lot of experts, who can help in this.

There are also two more ecolabels for energy as far as I know. Both of them are German (Grüner Strom and OK Power) but as they are rather small, it is propably not necessary? It is also likely than within next five years these ecolabels will somehow merge (like Fairtrade) as the electricity markets are getting international and they are opening.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Reskelinen (talkcontribs) 20:09, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, you sold me - notability may be there, but for the lack of sources. So I've moved the article to User:Reskelinen/EKOenergy, where it is a userspace draft of what might become an article, eventually. Take the time to find good sources, add them to the article, and improve it as needed. When it's ready, have some other editors read through and provide feedback. Then the article can be moved back to the main space. By userfying the article, you can improve it without the threat of imminent deletion. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, or just post {{helpme}} to this page with a request ofr assistance - someone will stop by and have a look. Best to you, UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 17:40, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Now I have added sources and translations. I think this is ready to be published?--Reskelinen (talk) 12:38, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
