Founding date

[edit]

@MinorProphet: Kieve gives the founding date as 1846. I think I would rather go with Kieve on this rather than the source you inserted (Roberts). First of all, Kieve is a book source from a reliable publisher based on Kieve's PhD thesis, so it has been heavily reviewed. Roberts, on the other hand, although probably very accurate, is still a self-published source. 1845 is the date of registration of the company. Registration does not mean a great deal, a company can be registered, but never do anything. For instance, the United Kingdom Telegraph Company was registered in 1850, but did not start operations until 1860. 1846 is the date of the Act of Parliament permitting the operation of the ETC, and the date of it actually starting business by holding its first general meeting.
