As Erk previously referred to a muslim socialist organisation active in Bashkiria, Bukhara and Turkestan from 1919 to 1921, does the ULDP claim any link to this, or is it a matter of using the same name derived from the word for "liberty"? Harrypotter (talk) 17:40, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: moved. No objection to the second move so that goes through, old title will be redirected to the dab ERK. As for the first move, I feel there is also a consensus for it – those supporting have made good common name arguments and, while avoiding slashes is not mandatory, it is desirable. – "Liberty" doesn't seem to be part of the party's name. It's just the English translation of the Uzbek word "Erk". We don't usually include translations in the title – it's sufficient if the translation is mentioned in the lead. Most of the English-language sources available (amongst them Political Organization in Central Asia and Azerbijan: Sources and Documents, Central Asia, 130 Years of Russian Dominance: A Historical Overview, Helsinki Watch: Human Rights in Uzbekistan, US Library of Congress, Civil Society in Central Asia, Guardian) refer to the party as "Erk Democratic Party", so there we go, that's our WP:COMMONNAME.
Regarding the historic party, the disambiguator needs to be slightly more precise. As we don't know much about that party, for now I chose the rather generic disambiguator "(historic party)". Feel free to come up with a better proposal though. -- PanchoS (talk) 02:18, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose – Sources say things like "Uzbekistan Liberty Democratic Party (O'zbekistan Erk Demokratik Partiyasi)" and "Erk (Liberty) democratic party". It's true that the name does not include Erk/Liberty, but this is one way to specify the foreign/English name. Are we sure that dropping Liberty is a good idea? What do most English-language sources do? As for the subpage argument, I don't think that matters. The slash can be interpreted as part of an ordinary name, and subpage mechanism won't be noticed or get in the way of that. Dicklyon (talk) 05:40, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Support Erk (party)Erk (historic party) or Erk (party 1919-26), as ambiguous with this article. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 03:24, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
