the first paragraph seems to imply that ecorcheur means "scorcher" when it in fact means "flayer".

Yes. They are about the same thing. The phenomenon of mercenary armies acting on their own initiative in the late middle ages, mainly in France and Italy. Srnec (talk) 02:46, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. They are both the same thing, it is just the English/ French term that's different! Probably should go with the English name and have a redirect from the French name (as this is the English Wikipedia!) Also it can include mercenary armies of other nations - Italy for example.Wilfridselsey (talk) 10:35, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, much of the text is actually duplicated. I notice the tags have been up for some time now so if nobody else is talking it on and there are no objections, I'll perform the merge next week. Nzd (talk) 14:45, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This has been done now. I had to make a few decisions in terms of placement and which bits to replace. I'll leave it to more knowledgeable editors to go though it and amend as necessary. Nzd (talk) 02:05, 6 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
