Jazz article cleanup

[edit]

I am in the process of cleaning up the Jazz article. There are several sections that still need some work, specifically the comic sections. I will be adding more information in the next few days. Bmounger 05:54, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I noted that the car dealership Jazz comes from is the Casa De Cadillac car dealership in Sherman Oaks, CA. I bought my car there and noticed it was the same dealership as in the movie. Thought it was noteworthy. - Los Angelino Transformer fan.

Fair use rationale for Image:Autobot logo s.jpg

[edit]

Image:Autobot logo s.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specifi heavy wepon with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 21:58, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Images of Jazz's standard and battle mode

[edit]

Can I find out what website those images were taken from? Not that I really care for citations and the like, I'm just curious to know where the pictures came from.

Social Context

[edit]

It has always been pretty apparent, but even more so with a recognizable (and the only) african-american voice actor behind him that JAZZ is to-be inferred as the African-American equivalent in the Transformers world? "One of their fiercest warriors and good at learning new cultures"...I think its definitely noteworthy enough that this was and still is a pretty commonplace correlation.

Eh. You might have a point. But I seriously doubt that there was any kind of political or cultural point to the decision. --MrDopple 18:14, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Movie Spoilers

[edit]

What is the policy of Wikipedia on "spoiler warnings"? That is, if a movie is not even released, shouldn't there be a warning on items that reveal the plot/outcomes? There's a big (and I'm not sure if it's true) spoiler in the movie section. ElCapitanAmerica

I don't think its true at all.I heard somewhere that it was in the script's first draft but then scrapped.I'll just get rid of it.

I'm extremely new to Wikipedia, so pardon me if I'm not using the proper protocol. That being said, the aforementioned SPOILER should be removed... there should at least be a warning.

I removed what I deem to be a serious spoiler alert from the movie plot section. This movie hasn't been released in America. If anyone has a problem, they can wait until tomorrow after the movie's release and justifiably return the section. I don't want to hear any complaints about it either. Someone ruined a considerable portion of the movie's plot for people who haven't seen it yet, just so they can be the first to add to the article and get credit for it. I don't care about any attempt to justify it as "a risk someone takes for getting details on a character" either. Especially since American audiences cannot verify the details themselves until they can see the movie on July 3rd. Don't like it? Tough.--MrDopple 18:09, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, MrDopple! I tried removing it too. Hear, Hear!

Can someone possibly alert readers about the spoilers at the bottom of this page (about the film) with the standard "spolier alert" tags?--Scottymoze 16:54, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Encyclopedias don't tend to have "spoiler warnings". There needs to be a very compelling reason to add spoiler tags to articles, and there really isn't one for this article. -- JediLofty User ¦ Talk 08:19, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Spoiler tags are not necessary in sections involving a film's plot (see WP:SPOILER). -- JediLofty User ¦ Talk 12:28, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jazz 'rebuilt rumour' and Hasbro's toy bio

[edit]

What recent interview, and why wasn't it linked? Also, the toy bio, like many other Hasbro TF toy bios written by Forrest Lee, may not be binding to any current or future storyline. In fact, the Jazz G1-style repaint's bio is likely totally made up to explain why the toy is suddenly in G1 colours, so it should not be cited as a possible future outcome for Movie Jazz. - FFN

Agreed. Until proof of this interview is shown, please refrain from adding it to the article. Djseifer 22:23, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Last words

[edit]

I remember this from somewhere else. Jazz "Ya want a piece of me??" Megatron "No.I want 2." and that's when Jazz is destroyed.

They were in the article originally, but were removed by King Zeal. I'm not sure why. -- JediLofty User ¦ Talk 16:08, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Because it's not encyclopedic information. What's the significance of stating Jazz's last words? Why not his first words? King Zeal 16:44, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm attempting to debate about this in order to avoid the three-revert rule. Why is Jazz's "defiant" nature important to note in the article? It's a POV statement. Why not say that Jazz's first words define his character? Why not his words at some point midway through the film? Also, why include Megatron's retort? The whole thing just reeks of a fancruft addition.King Zeal 14:40, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well generally there is a degree of importance assigned to the last words of a person / character (hence the expression "famous last words"). I'm not sure why you are so adamant that the exchange shouldn't be there. -- JediLofty User ¦ Talk 15:00, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Because what's "generally" important is subjective and not required for an entry into an encyclopedia. Jazz was defiant but, by definition, so were all of the Autobots for fighting against the Decepticons in general. The quote doesn't do anything but emphasize the "coolness" factor of his death and Megatron's brutality. But again, that is POV and not worth entering into an article.
If there's no further argument, I'll take out the unnecessary information again. If you have any other reasons why you think it should be kept in, please respond here. If you don't, I'll take it as a concession and go ahead and edit the page. King Zeal 12:34, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the term "famous last words" is a term that is used to describe sarcasm (see: Famous last words) not to emphasize the traits of a character before his or her death. Again, you can just as easily assess Jazz's personality by his first words ("What's up, bitches?"), Ironhide by his first words ("You feel lucky, punk?") or any other character. In essence, I'm saying that this is not Wikiquote.King Zeal 15:10, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Would whoever keeps reverting my changes to the "Movie plot" section please post here and discuss why they're reverting? King Zeal 18:52, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • While I won't be actively adding or removing lines from this article (I have enough "pet" articles to keep me busy), I was asked for thoughts and so I'll weigh in on this. This includes a little personal opinion. The final words spoken by a major character may be significant to the character's biography (think Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson and "Thank God, I have done my duty.") but in this instance, not so much. From the first lines, as noted above, to the final lines, the dialogue in the movie from the Transformers was awful. Good movie, awful dialogue. There is also the "spoiler effect," though, one would expect such in an article such as this a lot of people still whine about them. I would recommend against including that final bit in his article. Perhaps a section demonstrating his personality/attitude (including his "defiant nature") would be better, where three or four lines from Jazz from the movie are included, but the last words, no so much. Really, that's the best justfication I can give right now. VigilancePrime 16:46, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wait...the best justification you have is "I think the lines suck?" Since when is an opinion the word of law? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.112.51.181 (talk) 02:33, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

His death is very different in various situations, one he died by his spark pulled out of his chest, two he got stabbed by Devastator and three his movie death is done by ripping his arm off.(TougHHead 05:19, 2 November 2007 (UTC))[reply]

2007 Movie Plot - Fallback Order

[edit]

Jazz was not the one to issue the fallback order upon Megatron's arrival during the final battle. It was Ratchet. It's a small inaccuracy, but one nonetheless. However, I did not make this edit as I see it's been a point of disagreement in the history, with some indicating Ratchet gave the order, others that only Jazz can issue such an order, as he was the most senior autobot officer present. Advice? Vn70072 (talk) 03:59, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will be watching the movie again soon and have hearing impaired subtitles on and listening carefully to the voice to double check. RiseDarthVader (talk) 08:39, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just watched it again and it is definitely Jazz's voice. Not ratchet's or ironhide's voice. The voice of the fall back order matches the voice of jazz when he gets hit by megatron. RiseDarthVader (talk) 12:56, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Readded some of the deleted pictures

[edit]

I readded the free image of the car from the movie, as well as one picture each of Animated and Shattered Glass Jazz. WE have had this talk before and for an article about several characters who share a name, at least one picture per character is justified. Mathewignash (talk) 17:01, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An Inaccurate Statement Unchecked

[edit]

"During the time between the film's release and the start of season 3 of the TV show, Jazz's voice actor, Scatman Crothers, died."

Actually, he died on November 22, 1986, two days after the last episode of the year aired. It should also be pointed out that Roger C. Carmel, who predeceased Crothers by 11 days, was still active on the show during that time.
