Comparison Table

[edit]

I've been working on a table to compare the LECs for various solar energy technologies. I plan to add the LECs for coal, NG etc. LECs vary according to the input assumptions but it would seem something can be put together that gives a reasonable range of values. I'll post what I come up with. Mrshaba (talk) 02:19, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Before you do something, take a look at this: http://www.feem-project.net/cases/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 159.149.24.100 (talk) 22:44, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

11:59 19 April 2010 Im a tad concerned about the relevence of the sources of information for the comparison of cost of power. Whilst it is ok as a historical document, even the source document admits in the caption to the graph that the costs are only estimates. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.243.194.163 (talk) 12:03, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Due to high demand, wind energy projects have increased substantially in the last few years in many parts of the world and particularly in North America. In Europe, it hasn't increased as much because of high internal competition and mature sites. At this point, a typical 100 MW project in US and Canada will cost about 200 to 220 million (turn key construction costs ONLY) with a typical 26% nameplate yield efficiency.

Cost studies from the 90's or even from the early 2000 are inaccurate because they don't reflect the huge increases in steel, copper and transportation costs.

good article

[edit]

This is an excellent article but it should be amalgamated / combined whatever with *Relative cost of electricity generated by different sourcesEngineman (talk) 13:02, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, and I have placed the merger proposal tags on the respective pages. I would propose to merge the two into "levelised energy cost", since that term is by my knowledge the most commonly used one. GNOJED3891 (talk) 16:51, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Levelised Energy Cost is probably the correct titel for the article, but it is not one that most people who are interest in the cost of electricty - journalists say or other pundits, and the general public would know about and hence look up - so i think the Relative cost of electricy ........one is a btter title,............IMHOPEngineman (talk) 20:11, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think the "Relative cost of electricity generated by different sources" title makes more sense to the average reader. The title might be improved further. "Levelised energy cost" can be redirected to it. That way people searching for "Levelised energy cost" and arriving at that redirect page will also make it to the article. --Timeshifter (talk) 14:17, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I merged these articles not too long ago but it was struck down. I still think a merge is in order, and I never bothered to remove the LEC info from the other page. --Fiftytwo thirty (talk) 14:24, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I added {{mergeto}} and {{mergefrom}} tags to the articles. See Wikipedia:Merging and moving pages#Proposing a merger.
Please continue discussion at Talk:Relative cost of electricity generated by different sources#Merger proposal. --Timeshifter (talk) 07:07, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merge or delete

[edit]

I hope we can come to some kind of agreement here. See: Talk:Cost of electricity by source. There is agreement there to combine the articles.

We could maybe do a WP:Request for comment next. Or an AfD (WP:Articles for deletion). Ideas welcome. Please reply at Talk:Cost of electricity by source/Archive 1#Merge discussion. --Timeshifter (talk) 13:38, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of externalities

[edit]

Levelised energy cost does not mention externalities in the cost computation. If this is lumped into the term:

  • = Fuel expenditures in the year t

the article should make that explicit. --Teratornis (talk) 19:57, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
