Suggestions

[edit]

Wow, this list has really shaped up nicely. About the only other suggestion I would think of is to expand the lead a bit more; I would include the genre and info about the related titles. Maybe add a "See also" section and put a link to a similar type of series or list of games. Maybe the {{Portal|Video games|Gamepad.svg}} too. Just some thoughts.

Make sure you also list it at WP:VG/FA when you go to FLC, so other editors (myself included) know it's up for FL. Good job again. (Guyinblack25 talk 16:38, 28 April 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Indeed. Not to rain on the FL candidacy, but this seems good enough to replace the actual series article Harvest Moon (series). This article gives a decent overview of gameplay (without becoming a game guide) and provides some quick info on each individual game in the series -- IMO that's what the series article should be doing. Ham Pastrami (talk) 06:53, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe, but i thought a series article should be more like Crazy Taxi (series), were it covers things like overall reception, gameplay and development. For this article to become a series article it would need a mass overhaul. But then i dont no much about writing video game articles, this would be more of a question to be based at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games and see what they say about your question. Questionable removal of sourced BS Harvest Moon material

[edit]

I think User:Salavat has made an error. If one reads the sources that had been supplied it is clear that St.GIGA had broadcast two separate serials: The first being the 4-episode SoundLink Game entitled BS Harvest Moon (BS 牧場物語, BS Bokujou Monogatari) (with each episode having different subtitles and different all new plots unique to this title), and the second being the original Harvest Moon (牧場物語, Bokujou Monogatari) (identical to the original SFC version except in broadcast data form and without LiveVoice support). There are unfortunately very few articles on BS-X titles on wikipedia, but a rough analogy can be drawn where BS Harvest Moon is to BS Zelda: Kodai no Sekiban as the Satellaview version of Harvest Moon is to the Satellaview version of Zelda: A Link to the Past. As it stands now, BS Harvest Moon is incorrectly listed under Harvest Moon. The two games have been conflated when they are really very different games. I believe that 1)the name of the Satellaview version of the original Harvest Moon should be restored to Harvest Moon (牧場物語) since this is the name it was given by Nintendo, and 2)the material on BS Harvest Moon should be restored because it was an official Nintendo release and is necessary if one is to have a complete "List of Harvest Moon titles" as the name of the article suggests. The way things stand now they are quite misleading to readers. Was this just a simple mistake or are there other reasons why this removal was made? -Thibbs (talk) 03:42, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alright i found that there was two main problems here: Firstly the whole entry for the title was used with unreliable sources. Secondly quote from the entry "episodically released ura- or gaiden-version of the original Harvest Moon" making me assume that this is just a four part re-write of the original game. As this is a featured list you cant just use any sources to reference additions they must come from reliable sources, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Sources for more information.
If this is a different game to the original Harvest Moon game then it can be re-added but it must use reliable sources, you cant just cite information from any random site. Salavat (talk) 13:35, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There's very little material online that covers Satellaview games in general because the system was a Japan-only release, was prohibitively expensive, and only existed for 5 years. Each episode of BS Harvest Moon was only broadcast once a day for 50 minutes for a span of 2 weeks (counting the 1 rerun) and the games were never re-released by Nintendo.
Of the two sources provided, one comes from "Famicom House" - a wepage devoted to collecting a list of all SFC titles (including Satellaview and SF games), and the other comes from "The Satellaview History Museum" - a webpage devoted to transcriptions of the "Super-Hour Program Guide" (the list of broadcast times published by St.GIGA for Satellaview owners) and "Satellaview Tsushin" (a hard-copy magazine about the Satellaview published by ASCII). Both are sites whose authors are generally regarded as trustworthy or authoritative in relation to the subject at hand. Particularly in the case of "The Satellaview History Museum," the information is a transcript of material that there can be no question is reliable source material. There's clearly no reason to suspect the transcriber is publishing false transcriptions. There is no motivation for him to do such a thing. These aren't random sites, but rather they are the most generally regarded trustworthy or authoritative sites that publish material in relation to the subject at hand. All online English-language Satellaview enthusiast sites trust and reference them. -Thibbs (talk) 14:40, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok dont get me wrong im all for re-adding the entry as it seems i made a mistake but i just want to clear a few more things up first. So what you are saying is that Harvest Moon (video game) was also released on the Famicom by the Satellaview. And then a seperate game BS Harvest Moon was released based on the elements of Harvest Moon but not the same as the other Satellaview game? Salavat (talk) 00:12, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes exactly. The Satellaview version of Harvest Moon (video game) was basically identical except it was broadcast as data instead of being on a cartridge. There were no extra Satellaview features associated with this version such as the LiveVoice.
They also released another game called "BS Harvest Moon" that had a narrator telling the player what to do and gave a new plot and new tasks for the player. It used the same game-play engine but that was the only thing the same about the two games. The analogy with "BS Zelda" works pretty well if you're familiar with that series. -Thibbs (talk) 00:20, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok cool im starting to get the gest of things. So on the basis of BS Harvest Moon being different how bout you re-write the entry in here first to make sure its all proper then we can put it in the article. Salavat (talk) 10:38, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I notice you shifted the material I had originally added here to the Harvest Moon (video game) article. Although it is a different game, I think this shift was probably a good idea. Ideally there should be a separate article on BS Harvest Moon that could briefly explain the plot, etc., but right now there's probably not enough material online to support a good article on it alone. Many of the other BS games have been listed under their parent, so I think your move was entirely proper. I also see that the entry I had originally added here was a bit overly-detailed. I think we can leave the details to the "BS Harvest Moon" subsection of the Harvest Moon (video game) article and only have a brief version here. What do you think of this version?:

I would make a few changes; firstly i dont think it can be called BS Harvest Moon as Harvest Moon is the english title and seen as it was never released anywhere but Japan it would have only been known as BS Bokujou Monogatari; secondly note points 2 and 3 need a reference on them. Salavat (talk) 02:43, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. I also think we should de-link these references after our discussions are done here just so there aren't a bunch of dangling references sitting in a talk page. Talk pages aren't really supposed to be used as sandboxes. Does this look acceptable?

Kool, added and removed references from the talk page, thanks for your time. Salavat (talk) 03:48, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK Great. Thanks for your input too. -Thibbs (talk) 06:08, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
