Yard number

[edit]

I'm wondering if the yard number can be correct. It looks like Turku shipyard's number because Helsinki yard numbers were running at 500's just a few years ago. --Gwafton (talk) 07:45, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is correct. When Masa-Yards and Aker Finnyards merged into Aker Yards a few years back, the different running yard numbers of the different yards were abolished and there's now a joint running numbering for all the Finnish yards starting from the last unused number in the old Turku numbering. Which IMO is confusing but apparently that's the way things work these days... — Kjet (talk · contribs) 21:51, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okdokes, thanks for the info. So all the Finnish STX vessels are following the old Turku numbering from 2005 or something. It's understandable they are following the same system as nowadays a hull can be launched at one yard but the ship may be finished and handed over to the customer at another one. --Gwafton (talk) 23:49, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
