Age

[edit]

Matron Yvonnel Baenre—a drow cleric who was the single most powerful political figure in Menzoberranzan for about two thousand years - I may be wrong as I'm just going from memory here, but wasn't Matron Baenre only about one thousand years old? Adonai-aus- 00:56, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, she was at least two thousand. Quin 04:17, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Notability template

[edit]

This article does not site any reliable secondary sources as evidence of notability outside the Forgotten Realms canon. I am requesting that the Notability cleanup template be restored so this issue can be addressed. --Gavin Collins (talk) 15:35, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Then add a tag calling for additional references, which would be more correct than your assumption of non-notability.Shemeska (talk) 15:56, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hasn't there been at least one novel where Menzo was featured prominently? More than one, in fact, because wasn't Drizzt from there and part of the intrigue of the city featured prominently in his story? There's got to be reviews floating about, assuming I'm correct. BOZ (talk) 16:32, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Those are primary sources. reliable secondary sources are required to demonstrate notability. Please restore the template.--Gavin Collins (talk) 20:38, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's the setting for multiple NYT best selling novels. Beyond any other reason, it's a notable spin-off article from those novels themselves. And really Gavin, it gets to you that much man, please feel free to ask for a 3rd opinion and reference all of this present discussion when asking for it.Shemeska (talk) 21:26, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Every single novel that Menzoberranzan is featured in just happens to be a New York Times best-seller. That would be all three of The Dark Elf Trilogy novels, all six of the War of the Spider Queen novels, all three of the Starlight and Shadows novels, and the novels in the Legacy of the Drow series. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.107.129.57 (talk) 01:25, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Third opinion

[edit]

The prominence of works featuring Menzoberranzan is not the same thing as prominence of works about Menzoberranzan. However, I'm fairly sure sources exist, as it is a prominent and popular fictional place. Notability simply insists that appropriate sources are available. It is highly unlikely that there are not at the bare minimum book reviews and RPG periodical articles that substantively discuss Menzoberranzan. If a topic is (likely to be) notable, but lacks sources and claims demonstrating that notability, {{[[Template:{{{1}}}|{{{1}}}]]}} can be used. Vassyana (talk) 02:16, 18 April 2008 (UTC) You can help too by providing a third opinion. RfC and editor review could also always use a few extra voices! [reply]

That seems reasonable. BOZ (talk) 12:09, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
