Cleaning up the article

[edit]

I have made a few edits, mainly to the history section, just to show the sort of things that need to be improved. I removed some of the "narrative", in order to make the tone more encyclopedic (other sections needs to be improved in similar ways). I've marked a few sentences with [citation needed] tags to give an idea of what kind of statement needs referencing should be used (to give you an idea for the other paragraphs). I'll let you work on the article for a while, contact me if you hit a wall, or are completely lost. Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 10:37, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • 'I had missed this talk page so please also see my reply on the AfD page.
Since that reply I have made some more style improvements and added a citation, but there remain some mild assertions I cannot find sources for as they relate to the capabilities and cost of equipment many years ago. Other assertions, such as "9 mm static climbing rope was found to be better than anything thinner, including wire rope, at preventing twist." are the result of experiments made by I.A.Recordings but never written-up, they were just used ad hoc to decide how to proceed. Almost all the factual statements about the construction history are from the first reference, CREG journal No.22. I didn't think it necessary to use the same citation many times in the article, but I could add a few more if that is normal practise. Thanks again, John Logie (talk) 10:36, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
