"Port" versus "version"

[edit]

I think the rationale quoted in this edit summary is splitting hairs, and ignores popular usage. Especially during the 8- and 16-bit eras, it was entirely commonplace for games to be released on multiple platforms in parallel by different teams of developers who may have had no reference material (source or otherwise) to draw from at all, and the contemporary press universally referred to these as ports. "Version", on the other hand, is vague enough that it can also refer to the existence of other versions of the same game on the same platform (which does indeed happen).
