Can you believe someone's going to remake this excellent film, schdeuled for a 2008 release? That would normally be great if it could live up to the standards of the original, but it probably won't considering that Mark Wahlberg is tied to it. You'd think he learned his lesson in the horrible Planet Of The Apes remake about doing this sort of thing. This film was greatly underappreciated in its time, but every review I've ever seen by non-critics say they love it as much as I do. It has one of the best jazz film scores ever. I'm betting that Walhberg will try to do it (if he's smart) like George Clooney remade Ocean's Eleven, i.e., taking the skeletal story/basic premise & making a whole new movie along the same lines with a true updating. The problem is, what makes the original film so good and hold up so well over 25 years later is the jazz score, which will surely be dumped for a trendier, lively score and probably some (c)rap, and it's allegedly not going to be filmed in Atlanta. William Diehl, the author of the book, lived in Atlanta and unfortunately, he recently died and can't put up any fuss over it. I'm betting his heirs don't care what happens as long as they get paid --- can't say as I blame them. It's easy to look down at someone accepting money over principles or good taste when you either have a lot of money or you know you have no chance at getting it yourself and calling it "sour grapes".

This article has had its infobox tag removed by a cleanup using AWB. Any concerns please leave me a message at my talk page. RWardy 20:40, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Soundtrack

I believe this film's soundtrack is notable for its jazz compositions, all performed by headliner, even legendary, artists, and most (if not all) recorded specifically for this film and available nowhere else. Today the album, which has apparently never been released on CD, is considered a collector's item.
