Marine or Aquatic

[edit]

The article states Stereosternum were marine reptiles. However, the Mesosauridae article states they lived in freshwater environments. Now, which one of these views is correct? I suspect that the terms 'marine' and 'aquatic' have been (incorrectly) treated as synonymous by the author, OR that the incorrect view on the correct usage of these two terms is actually my view, due to the fact English is not my native language.

So, according to my understanding of English, 'aquatic' means 'living mostly in water', while 'marine' means 'living mostly in the sea'. If this is correct, the respective statement in the Stereoternum article is incorrect. If this is not correct, I must be the one who is mistaken, and this post can be considered irrelevant.
