[edit]

Have been adding Coblentz-related material. The article needs some reorganization, but I believe that the facts are (reasonably) reliable and verifiable. Astrochemist, 3:10 5 August 2006 (UT)

It would be good to add a public-domain photograph of Coblentz. - Astrochemist 01:51, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all the good work! I think we should now concentrate one using 'cite' type of references of the major sections and find a PD image. Maybe, we can make this into a good article. Awolf002 22:21, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

...Coblentz was among the first, if not the very first, to verify Planck's Law[citation needed].

[edit]

Coblentz might have verified Planck's law, but the one who did this first was Heinrich Rubens: "On October 7,1900, Rubens and his wife invited the Plancks over, an occasion which Rubens used to communicate the discovery that the limit of the radiation law for large λT was a linear function of temperature [29,53]. Planck went back home to rework the thermodynamic properties of his empirically based blackbody system and quickly responded with an equation that could predict all the observed phenomena. Rubens replied that the proposed equation fitted the results perfectly, and both Planck and Rubens and Kurlbaum presented their results at the same meeting of the Physical Society on October 19."
