song title

[edit]

Shouldn't the article at least mention that Goodman's title for the song was "You Never Even Call Me By My Name" (not "Called")? (See the track listing for Goodman's first album, for example.) Davecat4 (talk) 16:59, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Probably not the Waldorf

[edit]

It would be nice to cite the WNEW interview mentioned if it's out there. Maybe John Prine was just talking about a great room he had with Steve Goodman in NYC unrelated to the writing of the song. Or maybe the Wiki editor remembered it wrong. But here (around 21:40) Prine lays out the whole genesis of the song. He specifically says he and Steve were sharing a far more humble room, with beer in the bathtub, at the Roosevelt Hotel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZx7xCK6yfo&t=1311s&ab_channel=kevin46036 Stumptheprofessor (talk) 00:13, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
