75th anniversary of the Great Victory

75th anniversary of the Great Victory is the 75th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory in the Second World War, which was declared after the signing of the German Instrument of Surrender on 8 May 1945 (9 May Moscow Time).

The Russian Federation officially considers 9 May a non-working holiday, which is called Victory Day[1].

Military Parade.

[edit]

The 2020 Moscow Victory Day Parade took place in Moscow's Red Square on 24 June 2020.  It was the first Victory Day parade to be delayed and not held on 9 May due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The parade traditionally featured Russian President Vladimir Putin’s speech, which was accompanied by Russia’s prominent military figures.

The parade featured 13,000 military personnel, around 230 armored vehicles, and 75 military aircraft.

Immortal Regiment

[edit]

The Immortal Regiment, which includes crowds of enthusiasts walking and carrying pictures of war veterans, was cancelled in 2020 in its physical form. Almost 3,000,000 individuals have applied for participation in the cross country Immortal Regiment on the web. The broadcast of Immortal Regiment Online was given on May 9 on the Immortal Regiment of Russia website, public TV channels, and informal communities.

Medals.

[edit]

The Jubilee Medal "75 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945" was established on June 13, 2019 to denote the 75th anniversary of the 1945 victory over Nazi Germany. The medal was awarded to soldiers and civilians who made a contribution to the victory.

Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet Soldier

[edit]

Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet Soldier is a bronze 25-metre statue of a soldier in the Red Army standing on a 10-metre mound. The construction had been finished according to the plan, and the memorial was supposed to be open to public by 9 May. However, due to the Covid-19 restrictions, the opening ceremony was conducted on 30 June. It was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as numerous Red Army veterans of the Second World War.
