From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thanks to a final project in Dr Suzi Lima's course PRT368H Brazilian Indigenous Languages in the Fall of 2017 at the University of Toronto, I've gotten into contributing to Wikipedia. Since then I've been mainly focused on various democratic processes within Canada, and articles relating to Indigenous peoples and languages (again, mostly in Canada). I really like Shakespeare and puzzles.

I'm a rollbacker ("rowbacker") on Scots Wikipedia since the controversy in late August 2020, where I've been helping to revert vandalism.

Activity

[edit]

Ongoing

[edit]

Continuing to poke around pages relating to the First Nations of Canada.

Past

[edit]

I've done a lot of work to update and shape up the article for Fort Albany First Nation, including the creation of Fort Albany (Ontario), List of chiefs of Fort Albany First Nation and List of Chief Factors of Fort Albany.

I have also spent some time improving the article on the Grand River land dispute.

In the summer of 2020, I was focusing on adding more content to articles related to Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte First Nation, and other First Nations and indigenous groups in Canada, including a vast expansion of the page on the West Moberly First Nations, the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service, as well as a history of the chiefs and councils of the Six Nations of the Grand River, currently parked in my sandbox.

Previously that year, and occasionally still, I was working on pages relating to 2020 Canadian pipeline and railway protests (including the Timeline), and the pages regarding the Wetʼsuwetʼen and the Wetʼsuwetʼen first nation bands.

For a while I was trying to expand the documentation page for Template:Infobox First Nation, as well as to insert it into pages it pertains to.

I was an active member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Orphanage from 29 December 2018 til about March 2019. Check below for pages I've successfully de-orphaned.

2018 Ontario election

[edit]

I worked on updating candidate lists for various ridings in the 2018 Ontario general election, to reflect the candidacy of candidates from minor parties, such as NOTA, The Peoples Political Party, Party of Objective Truth, and the Stop the New Sex-Ed Agenda Party.

For a time I was helping to expand the page for Ada Palmer's book series.

I created a summary of the second book, Seven Surrenders, added sections on the representations of multiple languages as well as gendered language in the series.

Brazilian Indigenous Languages Pages

[edit]

In 2017, as part of a course at the University of Toronto, some students and I were tasked with fleshing out pages for indigenous languages in Brazil. There are over 170 indigenous languages in Brazil but most don't have very detailed pages on Wikipedia, nor easily-accessible public information for non-linguists. I think that making knowledge publicly available helps provide a touchpoint for those interested in issues of linguistic discrimination and language revitalization. Plus, I think these languages are super cool!

I've primarily assembled the pages:

I've helped with some content updates and formatting on:

  • none yet

And I'm presently working on creating a page for, or updating:

  • none yet

(format ripped lovingly from User:Calahagus)

WikiProject Orphanage

[edit]

When I was active in the Orphanage, I was focusing mainly on de-orphaning as many Orphaned articles from August 2011 as I could. Here are the pages I "Successfully de-orphaned! WikiProject:Orphanage: you can help!"

While the project of de-orphaning is not about keeping score, it is helpful to keep a list of what I've done in order to come back to them in the future and integrate them better into the web.
