Anéantir (French: Anéantir) is a novel by French writer Michel Houellebecq, published in January 2022.[1]

Plot[edit]

Characters[edit]

  • Bastien Doutremont : a computer developper working at the DGSI (General Directorate for Internal Security)
  • Fred : a computer developper working at the DGSI (General Directorate for Internal Security)
  • Bruno Juge : Minister of Economy, Finance and Budget
  • Paul Raison : An employee at Ministry of Economy, Finance and Budget
  • Prudence : An employee at Ministry of Economy, Finance and Budget, and the girlfriend of Paul Raison

About the plot and the characters[edit]

The character of Bruno Juge, Minister of the Economy, Finance and Budget, probably refers to Bruno Le Maire (Minister of the Economy, Finance and Economic growth when the novel was published). Bruno Le Maire, who claimed to be one of Michel Houellebecq's relatives, had in October 2021 revealed some parts of the plot of the novel, yet to be published.[2]

Reception[edit]

Controversy[edit]

Less than three weeks before its release, the first pages of the novel were illegally distributed on social networks, and on December 21th, 2021, a full digital version of the book circulated, probably made from a scan, even though no digital version have been yet released, and only printed versions have been sent to journalists, with a formal request not to reveal anything of the novel's plot before December 30th.
