Disputed fair use rationale for Image:EU-logo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:EU-logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 15:32, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Just for your information, the bot wasn't malfunctioning, you said the fair use was in the Eastern University, not Eastern University, Bangladesh. Unless you specify the article precisely, the bot will tag it. I've fixed it now. Cheers. The Rambling Man 18:20, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
Well 99.9% of the complaints I've seen relate to not specifying exactly which article each fair use rationale applies to. It's usually that simple. The Rambling Man 18:41, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I never said the templating wasn't rude, all I said was 99.9% of the time, the bot gets it right. But anyway, in this instance the problem has been fixed. The Rambling Man 19:22, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

speedies

[edit]

I observe you have been placing speedy tags on many articles where the person has at least some minimal claim of importance, and several different administrators have been removing them. Please read WP:CSD, and see the extremely limited circumstances under which this criterion can be used. ANY claim of importance is sufficient. we overworked admin have enough to do removing the really speedy-deletable pages without having to deal with these. Please be just a little more careful in your patrolling. thanks-- DGG (talk) 02:53, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks very much! I saw on your user page that you're a Twinkle user and a member of the Welcoming Committee. I've actually written a tool based on Twinkle that I've been meaning to show to someone on the Welcoming Committee. It's called Friendly, and it was originally written to make welcoming new users much easier via a twinkle-style tab (although now it's expanded into article tagging too). If you could give it a whirl, I would be much obliged, and you could see if I should put a link to it from the Welcoming Committee project page. Rude false remarks

[edit]

I wrote an article about Margareta Svensson. It upsets me that it is deleted, but even more so that there are harassments from so called administers that apparently can say whatever they like, with no knowledge at all and no interest in finding out either. THOSE FALSE ALLEGATIONS will be what people will read about Margareta Svensson, not her extraordinary international career as a singer-pianist. There was NOTHING in that article that wasn't true, and if you administers were half-way professional you would find that out.

I had written I think three sentences when I had a message that she was not notable. And yes I did delete that message, and I only deleted that ONE, because it was not relevant. The article was not up. I couldn't imagine that someone who could write such a rude false remark after me having written almost nothing at all, could be favored. Is Wikipedia a game to see who can stand unfair beatings and just turn the other cheek?

I may have made the mistakes of creating an account with the name Margareta Svensson, because I thought that was how it was supposed to be done. And I also uploaded much before it was the final article, because I wanted to see that it worked. I didn't think anyone was that interested in my work that I got a comment long before I was done. Another lengthy rude comment, complained how I had worded a sentence, and I made changes to accommodate.

One comment that it couldn't be valid because references were in Swedish - I must say that arrogance does not even begin to describe such a comment. English is the language that is used by the world, but most people in the world does NOT have English as their first language.

It seems that administers are people with too much time on their hands who have nothing better to do than to quickly, within minutes of first activity, beat a new person down with rude, false remarks. Shouldn't you be interested instead? But being mean may be how you get your satisfaction? You are no better than bullying kids on the playground.

Ludwig Kaspersen

your recent report of an inappropriate user name

[edit]
I do not see the problem with this user name. Although it is similar to an arabic name of a person who is an influential religious and political figure in Iraq, this alone does not create any disruption, in my mind. JERRY talk contribs 21:36, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
I disagree. User:Moqtada al Sadr was blocked because it is the name of a person who is an influential religious and political figure in Iraq. Wikipedia:Username is the relevant policy here, and it specifically states in the section "Real names": "you are not allowed to edit under the real name of a well-known living person". This does not extend to "any usernames that are similar to the name of any famous person will be preemptively blocked". I am afraid that "Muqtada al" is the first part of an amazingly large number of Muslim/ Arabic persons' names, and this policy interpretation you are promoting would result in undue disruption and discrimination. If this individual engages in edits that appear to defame or impersonate the famous person whose name is similar to their username, then this can be dealt with, but preemptive action does not seem prudent in this case. Yes, as I said, user accounts are created by request, through Wikipedia account creation. They are created by editors and administrators. I've created many, many accounts for editors, as have others. This does not mean these are my accounts. Take a look at WP:ACC to understand. Cheers, ArielGold 09:34, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

AfD

[edit]

I was just wondering on what basis you closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kazumi Tanaka after only a day of discussion. Regards, Guest9999 (talk) 05:37, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Non-admins closing AfDs is already a slightly controversial area and I do not think there is any consensus for non-admins closing debates out of process (in this case before the normal allowed time period had ellapsed). One reason you may not have seen any reasons to delete the article was that the debate had only been open for a day and the full spectrum of editors had not been given a chance to contribute. Either way, your reason for closing sounds more like an arguement to make within the debate than a reason for closing it. Guest9999 (talk) 12:04, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
The guideline you linked to says "Deletion discussions must be decided in accordance with consensus and taking account of Wikipedia policies and guidelines.". deletion policy - official policy of the english Wikipedia - says "The discussion lasts at least five days". Closing a deletion discussion after one day does not give enough time for consensus to be reached in the community. Guest9999 (talk) 23:13, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Hello! Please note Sunderbans and Cox's Bazar have been selected as the current WikiProject Bangladesh collaboration topics. Sundarbans and Cox's Bazar

[edit]

The article on Sundarbans and Cox's Bazar seem have a number of problems that you have been tagging articles for - citation, in-line citation, factual accuracy, trivia... and more. Since you have already visited both pages, I thought, this must be a mistake for a diligent tagger (i.e. not have noticed the problems). I am sure, as you said, betterment of Wikipedia is your goal, and identifying problems is a part of it. As you have stated an interest in developing the article, may you want to take a look. Thanks. Aditya(talkcontribs) 13:03, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for tagging Bengal Assam Railway for ref improvement. Since I happen to be the only editor who contributed to the article, it deserves to be tagged appropriately. I do understand that articles like Sundarbans and Cox's Bazar are not good enough for you attention, as both are being observed and edited by a number of editors. But, could you be a little more precise about why and how the references should be improved? I am sure, anyone who ever takes a look at the citations will get be able to see that the sources are adequate. Do you need me to repeat the same sources with every line of the article? Or is it something else? Aditya(talkcontribs) 07:30, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for tagging the Banglapedia article. The speed with which it was tagged in the wake of Nishkid64's removal and my reinstatement of the sources is highly commendable. I would also like to draw your attention to a few articles maintained by the Bangladeshi Universities WikiProject? The following articles seem to suffer, by and large, from the same problem - Independent University, Bangladesh, American International University, Bangladesh, University of Science & Technology Chittagong, Leading University, Stamford University, Northern University, Bangladesh, South East University, Daffodil International University, Daffodil Institute of Information Technology, International University of Business Agriculture and Technology, City University, Bangladesh, Asian University of Bangladesh, IBAIS University, Darul Ihsan University, Eastern University, Bangladesh, United International University, World University of Bangladesh, Asa University Bangladesh, Bangladesh University of Business and Technology, Dhaka International University, Universities in Bangladesh, Metropolitan University, Sylhet, People's University of Bangladesh, Comilla University, Government Saadat College, Kumudini College, Shanto Mariam University of Creative Technology, Premier University, Chittagong, Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology | America Bangladesh University | Southern University, Bangladesh, Millennium University, Prime University, Victoria University of Bangladesh, Sylhet International University, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh. Since you are a major participant in that Wikiproject and a diligent tagger of articles, you may want to take a look at some of them. Thanks. Aditya(talkcontribs) 09:26, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Is there a method to your tagging? Like being selective to make certain cases highly "taggable" while making other cases "ignorable"? It seems that you are very quick to tag certain articles, even if they are only a stub, or even though you could fix some in a few seconds on your own. At the same time it seems that you are quite reluctant to tag some other articles that has same or similar problems. Is there a reason behind this? BTW, thanks also for the tagging of Grameen Bank. Aditya(talkcontribs) 17:31, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Hi, have you noticed that Image:TVRaven02.jpg is non-free and is used without a rationale to depict Jeffrey Meek, a living person? Since you worked so diligently to remove Image:Ananthabhadram Kavya.jpg, I thought you'd want to take a look at this image as well. BTW, It was not uploaded by me. But, I hope that alone does not make it fair. Aditya(talkcontribs) 02:33, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for finding Kannappanunni as taggable, because it had a wrong header for the source (i.e. External link). Also, congratulations for finding all the articles you ever worked on as non-taggable. Aditya(talkcontribs) 13:03, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Removing prod

[edit]

You removed a prod saying "no reason" was given. Did you not see my edit summary: Article has been "owned" by a single editor for 3 more months, after AfD recommended changes that have not been made? You're absolutely right, I went too fast! Sorry about that. --Crusio (talk) 16:13, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I noticed you added the inuse template to this page. This template should only be added if you yourself are currently doing major editing to the page. The only edit you made to that page was adding the template, so of course it doesn't belong on there. I've removed it. Please don't readd it unless you actually are doing major rework on the article at the time you are adding it. Once you're done, even if just to take a half hour break, it should be removed, since it effectively asks other users not to edit the article, which there's no reason to if you're not working on it yourself at that very moment. [edit]

I have declined to act upon your report for User:Hilaryiscool. I think it's insufficiently blatant. For instance, the username is "hilary", but Mrs. Clinton spells her name "Hillary". - Philippe | Talk 19:17, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Regarding your tagging of this image. This is an image that was uploaded specifically for the fictional character article Maria Sutherland. No free image of a fictional tv character exists, because any image of the character is copyrighted to the network. Therefore, it's not replacable. A screenshot of a character is fair use in the character's article and it should not be deleted. However, it's not fair use in the actor's article, so Ive removed it from there.Gungadin 20:03, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Adding "citation need" template to short stubs

[edit]

In the future, please do not add the cn template to very short stubs (one sentence) where the only possible source of the information can be the external link in the stub - see this edit, for example.

Adding "cn" templates should be reserved for controversial or important facts, particularly ones that seem a bit implausible. Doing so (a) makes the most use of the valuable time of editors, like you, and (b) means that when an editor sees a "cn" or "fact" template, he/she should pay extra attention because not only is a sentence unsupported, but it's controversial or potentially implausible, and subject to being deleted in if not supported. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 16:36, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
