History of the war

Great Patriotic war lasted for 4 years. This war was a part of the Second World War . Allies of World War II fought against Axis powers. The final part of this war were Stalin’s ten blows, due to them Europe got freedom from Axis powers. On 8th May German Instrument of Surrender was signed. Nowadays, in most of Europe 8 May is celebrated as End of War day in Europe. 9 May is celebrated as Victory Day in Russia, Belarus, Serbia and Israel. In the USSR the parade took place on 24th June, 1945.

Celebrations of anniversaries of the Great Victory

The first Moscow Victory Parade lasted for 2 hours on 24th of June. In addition, the parade involved about 400.000 soldiers and 2.000 of military equipment. It became a public holiday day for two years, but later, until 1964 The Victory day was not celebrated. Second Victory Parade took place in 1965, third – in 1985, it was the 40th Anniversary of the Great Victory. Since 1995 parades has been celebrated annually.

Epidemiological situation in 2020 and its consequences to the celebration 75th Anniversary of the Great Victory

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Victory Day was held differently on 24th of June, 2020. This day also became a non-labour day. However, an air military parade took place on May 9. Many citizens saw an air show above their heads. There were used some airplanes from the Great Patriotic War. This celebration ended with fireworks. In Moscow no one knew where their location in order to avoid crowds of people.

An event «Immortal Regiment», which became a traditional even, came about in some cities in memory of war victims who died in battles of Great Patriotic War. In memory of the victory, some kindergartens and schools had concerts of poems and songs, dedicated to the war. Windows of citizens were decorated with white pigeons and Russian flags. Also, an online-event «Candle of memory» took place as well as a traditional «Moment of Silence» broadcast on TV.
