Michael Hancock, elected 2011, is the current Mayor of Denver and the second African American elected to the office.
Robert W. Speer, mayor 1904 to 1918, [accomplishments]. A victim of the 1918 flu pandemic, he was the first Denver mayor to die in office.
Federico Peña, mayor 1983–1991, was instrumental in bringing a Major League Baseball team, building a new airport, and revitalizing commercial development in the city. He next served in two Cabinet positions in the Clinton administration.
John Hickenlooper, mayor 2003–2011, resigned when he was elected Governor of Colorado.
