Sean Plott (born June 27, 1986[1] in Leawood, Kansas), commonly known by his handle Day[9], is a former professional StarCraft: Brood War and StarCraft II player as well as a famous caster known for his Day[9] Daily Netcasts, as well as his victories in the United States qualifiers to the World Cyber Games in 2004, 2005, and 2006 and his victory in the 2007 Pan American tournament. He qualified for the American finals an additional three times[2] and was recognized as PC Gamer UK's gamer of the year in 2010.[3] He regularly appears as a commentator at StarCraft tournaments worldwide, including Blizzcon 2010, the Major League Gaming Pro Circuit, the Dreamhack and the Team Liquid Star League.

Biography

[edit]

Plott grew up in Leawood, Kansas where he played Starcraft: Brood War professionally with his brother Nick "Tasteless" Plott. He received an undergraduate degree in mathematics from Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California and a masters degree in interactive media from University of Southern California in Los Angeles. After the Day[9] Daily on May 11, 2011, Day[9] announced that he will be pursuing Starcraft II full time. Whether he intends to cast full time, or play competitively was not clarified. On May 31, 2011, during an appearance on State of the Game, Day[9] announced that he intends to eventually stream himself playing games, as soon as he is not "embarrasingly terrible."

The Day[9] Daily

[edit]

The Day[9] Daily is a daily webshow where Sean talks about professional Starcraft games under the tagline: "Where we learn to be a better gamer." Initially the Day[9] Daily was started as a webcast in order to analyze high level Starcraft: Brood War play. With the release of the Starcraft II beta, the show's focus moved away from Starcraft: Brood War and became fully focused on Starcraft II. The show is currently presented as an edutainment webcast in which Sean editorializes and analyzes replays of Starcraft II. "These shows help both new and experienced players understand the game better and even showcase hilariously and deliberately crazy games on his 'Funday Monday' shows."[4] [5]
