Hey Aoba47 – quite some time ago you provided me with this link in order to archive Wikipedia articles. It has been of great use to me, especially as of late, but for the past few days it hasn't been working for me at all. I wanted to ask you if perhaps this was just a problem for myself (I tried several different browsers) or for everyone. I've been trying to archive a few final links in Happy Now? (No Doubt song) but without luck. If you have some spare time, please lemme know if it's working for you. Thanks, Carbrera (talk) 04:45, 10 August 2018 (UTC).[reply]

Hello, Aoba, how are you? I hope you are okay. I was wondering if you could possibly help me with the GAN of the article Tove Lo, please. If you are busy then don't worry, haha. Anyway, I hope you are doing fine and have a good day. Regards, --Paparazzzi (talk) 03:10, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Saving Light critical reception

[edit]

Hey, I saw your message on the FAC page for Saving Light which you offered to rewrite the critical reception. If you want to rewrite it in your sandbox then override the actual article’s part with it, you can if you want to, I’m not very sure how to improve it myself apart from the suggestions I made on the FAC page in response to the oppose, who has yet to respond. Micro (Talk) 03:22, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • @MicroPowerpoint: Thank you for your message. I would highly recommend that you look at the reference (i.e. Wikipedia:Copyediting reception sections) linked in the FAC as it is extremely helpful. I think that the primary issues with the "Critical reception" section is it jumps around a lot with a clear sense of cohesion and has a little too many quotes (at least in my opinion). I do no think that your suggested revisions in the FAC really addresses those issues. I have tried to make something in my sandbox, but I am not sure if it is much better to be honest. These types of sections are typically the most difficult to do well (particularly by an FA standard). I do not believe that the reviewer will make further comments as I think they view the prose as too unprepared for the FAC process. If a reviewer believes that an article is completely unprepared for an FAC, they may leave an oppose to let you know (as well as other reviewers) and move on (which is a perfectly acceptable perspective). I hope this helps. Aoba47 (talk) 03:38, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks for your help, I replaced the critical reception in the article with yours. I can see why the quotes were an issue, too many of them, linear and repetitive. It will be a shame if the opposer does not comment further and/or just leaves the oppose there, I won't know if the new critical reception improved the article and make it FA ready. 3 of Hearts (album)

[edit]

Just a quick tip -- you don't need the "composer" listings from Allmusic when crediting the personnel. That's just reiterating the songwriting credits from the tracklist. No idea why Allmusic does that. See Wikipedia:WikiProject_Albums/Album_article_style_advice#Personnel. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 18:57, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Cartoon network freak: I have done some copy-editing. Good work with the article. It is a shame that neither Stan nor Mami seem to get attention from more prominent publications. That always seemed to be the case for Stan, but it was made even more apparent when she went the independent route. I hope that I have helped somewhat. Jill Valentine

[edit]

Hi. You probably don't even remember, but you commented at Jill Valentine's FAC1 (over a year ago at this point). The original nominator – Freikorp – was driven away from the article, but I decided to take it over myself, and have been working on it for the past several months. I plan on renominating it at FAC sometime in September. Would you be interested in looking at the article sometime over the next few weeks and commenting at the next FAC? I understand if you don't wanna get involved again, but would really appreciate any feedback you might have. Cheers. Homeostasis07 (talk) 01:09, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Homeostasis07: Hello, and thank you for the message. I actually do remember the FAC process (and the peer review) with this article. I did not have a very good experience with either, and I will have to politely decline any future involvement. I would also recommend a peer review, in which you ping all of those involved with the first FAC and the last peer review, rather than a new FAC as I am sure that will be the first thing brought up. While I really enjoy reading and working on fictional character articles, I had some pretty negative experiences with them and I have chosen to avoid them in the future. Good luck with this though! Aoba47 (talk) 01:23, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for responding Aoba47. The whole JV thing was probably the most unpleasant incident I ever came across on Wikipedia as well, so I understand your point of view. As much as I think a new (i.e., new users) peer review could help, if the same people who took part in the last PR took part in the next one... I couldn't deal with that. Freikorp needs to be sainted for how he handled it, because I would've flipped my lid much earlier. I've no interest in moderating a two-month+ peeing contest. So that's why I'm doing this instead (asking people for their opinions one-to-one on their talk pages). Surprise surprise, the vast majority of them are exactly like you, saying something along the lines of not wanting to go near JV ever again for the rest of their editing lives. I wonder why. Anyways, happy editing. ;) Homeostasis07 (talk) 22:20, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you for the message, and good luck with the article! She is a rather important character in video game history so it would be nice to see the article be the best it could be. Aoba47 (talk) 23:53, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Homeostasis07: I hope that I do not come across as a jerk for asking this, but I was just curious if you would be able to help with my current FAC. I completely understand however if you do not have the time. I just thought that I might as well ask. Also, a random question, but what draws you to the Jill Valentine article in particular? I have previously thought about working on a video game fictional character in the past, and I was just wondering about your connection with this particular subject (particularly since it comes with a rather off-putting editing history). Aoba47 (talk) 01:45, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, you're not a jerk. ;) I might have 2/3 free hours for your FAC tomorrow. If not, then the weekend. And the article's edit history doesn't off-put me so much, because both me and the previous custodian took care of a lot of that. What motivates me most is the overall ugliness Jill Valentine endured during the FAC and PR process. I've written (at least) 10 possibly-FA-approvable articles over the past year, but I haven't gone near FAC since the JV debacle last October. I'm doing this more to restore my own faith in the Wikipedia "process" than anything else. If genuine consensus is against Jill's article for genuine reasons at FAC4, then fair enough. If it isn't promoted for some BS reason, though, then I'm pretty much done with Wikipedia altogether. So there's a lot riding on this... ;) Homeostasis07 (talk) 00:11, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Crap on a stick, Aoba. I completely forgot about your FAC. Sorry. Working on it now. ;) Homeostasis 12:57, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Possible false information on "The Way That I Love You"

[edit]

Hi there again! While copy-editing your article, I noticed something strange. While you say the single and its music video were released on January 1, 2008, the magazines you use as sources (that for example review the song or talk about its release etc) are all not dated in January, but rather in February 2008. I tend to think that this is an error on iTunes Store's behalf. From my experience, I've seen that they often mistake release dates of items released a few years ago. For example, on Inna's "Un Momento", an archived 2011 version of the French iTunes Store indicates its release date as July 18, 2011, while the newest, still viewable version indicates January 1, 2011. Also, when browsing on Discogs — I know it's unreliable, but still — I even see 2007 as the release date for two "The Way That I Love You" promotional CDs [1][2]. Cartoon network freak (talk) 10:01, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • I will look into it further. Several of the sources may be from February 2008 as they focus on the music video rather than just the song. Thank you for the help with the copy edit. Aoba47 (talk) 17:21, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deep Space Homer opinion

[edit]

Hello Aoba,

In my attempt for a featured article nomination on Deep Space Homer, you gave a long list of issues with an oppose comment. I agreed with your statements and have been working very hard these last few days to improve the article to your liking. I requested a peer review two months ago but that does not seem like it is coming anytime soon (PR needs a new system!). Do you have a new opinion on the article? Is it ready for another run at FAC or does it need to go through the peer review?

Thank you, all help is appreciated AmericanAir88(talk) 17:06, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • It looks much better. I would just make sure that the article is comprehensive as that was my main issue with it during the FAC (i.e. making sure that it covers all of the material out there about the episode). Good luck with it! Aoba47 (talk) 17:22, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I will do another sweep. Do you think I should cancel the PR and proceed with FAC? Honestly, it will probably be another few months before anyone touches the request. AmericanAir88(talk) 18:37, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the insight. I will stop as it seems to be very slow. AmericanAir88(talk) 20:14, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Vergil (Devil May Cry)

[edit]

I recently nominated Vergil (Devil May Cry) to GA after two copyedits. The in-universe information is not that big as Kazuya's while I think the creation is better edited. If you have the time, I would appreciate it if you could review it. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 23:57, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you for the message. The article looks really cool. I have a lot of respect and appreciation for your work on fictional character articles, particularly those in video games. I unfortunately do not have the time right now to do a thorough review of the article, but if it is still in the GAN catalog in the future, I will definitely consider it. Aoba47 (talk) 00:02, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Tintor2: I have picked up the article for review now that I have a little more time. I will review this weekend if that is okay with you. I would greatly appreciate it if you could a source review for my current FAC. Hope you are having a great week so far! Aoba47 (talk) 05:45, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Source review for Head Over Heels FAC

[edit]

Hi -- I don't know if you've been following the conversations at WT:FAC, but one of the suggestions made there is to separate source reviews from FAC. I've proposed here a workshop to try the idea out, and I'd like to get one or two FAC nominations on popular culture topics in the workshop. Would you be willing to put "Saving Light" in? It would lead to a source review, of (I expect) FAC quality, which I hope would be beneficial to the article; and it would help us see if the separation of source reviews could work for FAC. I've asked another user, with less FAC experience than you have, if they'd mind submitting their article (on a song) to the workshop, but I'd like to get one from you too since you've been through the mill a few times now. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 17:59, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you for the message. Unfortunately, I am not the primary contributor to the article or the user that put it up for FAC. That person is @MicroPowerpoint:. I have been thinking about putting a song article through the FAC process sometime in the future, so I could propose an alternative (I was thinking about one of the three articles ""Endless Night" (song), "Candy" (Foxy Brown song), or "My Man" (Tamar Braxton song)). I think that it is an interesting idea, and I would like to see the outcome. As someone that has reacted poorly to constructive criticism in the past, it would be nice to engage with more editors and be better with my responses if that makes sense. Aoba47 (talk) 18:55, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
As it happens, MicroPowerpoint is the other editor I've asked about this, so Head Over Heels would be a poor choice. Yes, criticism can be painful; sometimes you just have to grow calluses -- so long as the articles are improved.
The article I've asked MicroPowerpoint about is also a song article; I was hoping to get a different area of pop culture. If they decline the request, one of the three above would work; if not, is there a TV article with sources that you feel are strong enough for a FAC review? It's in the nature of things that this sort of workshop will probably be particularly thorough, because the reviewers know they're being watched. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 19:01, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the message. I really do find it helpful. There is not point in feeling regret/ashamed about the past; you can only learn from them and do better in the future. I can definitely think of a few TV articles that I am planning on submitting for an FAC review in the future. How about Shannen Says? It is an extremely silly topic (a celebrity reality show), but I have been thinking about putting it up for FAC since I created it back in 2016 (I can't believe it has been that long already ><). If they decline, I would probably pick “My Man”. Aoba47 (talk) 19:35, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well, just like at FAC, there's no such thing as declining a nomination -- let's go with Shannen Says. A silly topic is probably a good choice if we're trying to see what happens at the pop culture end of the spectrum. Thank you! No need to do anything until someone volunteers to be the coordinator -- I'll ping you when I start up the subpage. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 21:29, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Cool beans! I am glad that I could help, and it will be interesting to see the response lol. Aoba47 (talk) 21:45, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Inspired (song)

[edit]

Hello:

The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article "Inspired (song)" has been completed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

I read the GA reviewer's comments and I see you feel it is important that the term "with inspiration", which they questioned, be left in. I know that is one of the first things an FA reviewer would comment on. It is really a meaningless description especially since it is on a song sheet put together by an anonymous individual, so I also removed it. If you still feel strongly about it, removing the <!- -> code around the term in edit mode will restore it.

Best of luck as the article moves forward.
